Brainstorming the ultimate sticky...
My concept of the ultimate sticky is a supplement to the search function. a place where the best of STF has been sorted by topic. So if you have clutch trouble you click clutch and find the top notch threads, instead of wading through pages. to find the helpful threads. (not to knock the search function... it's valid, but has problems, efforts are being made to improve it, it's all good)
I think the best way to set it up is if there was a way to get multiple levels of information... The stickys seem a little 1 dimensional for this. What I would propose would be a forum with in the site called "search tree" or whatever... clicking on that would take you into the forum where there are threads.... for example clutch.... within the clutch thread you find posts... which ideally would be the summary of an item and the link to the archived item which is relevant to the subject at hand. EXAMPLE: "clutch slipping caused by faulty pressure plate http:blahblahblah.php"
The nice thing about this set up is that users of the site could do the contributing after the initial build, and it could be managed by a mod. If it's a sticky,it seems that it would be managed and maintained by one individual. So that's my thoughts...
... got some questions too:
Is there any interest in something like this?
Would people use it?
Would people contribute to it?
Should this thing try to encapsulate all the key issues of the total site including all specialty forums, or just the universal issues from the entire site? As an example "What kind of oil to use?" V.S. "What size of rims can I stuff under my fenders without modification?" you know... that sort of thing.
Food for thought.

Great idea that is what we need and that is the reason I asked for help. Anyone that reads a thread and finds good info should post it in this thread so it will end up in the stickies. Look at the stickies as a library, you open a book and look at the contents, or subjects then you go to that page. So what we need now are subjects to click on. Lets make a list.

What I would think would work best in the stickies. Is a Heading that says Engines when clicked on it takes you to a drop down list Lubrication, Cylinder Heads etc……When you clicked on Lubrication it would bring you to the threads under that heading, see the example above.
I started a new thread on Lubrication so we can organize it into clickable links, please add info.

I view the newbie site as an introduction to the STF forum in general. When a question is asked and could fall into another site's discussion expertise, the site commander could come in and post an invitation to that site. It does not mean things could not be discussed here but “for more detailed explanations you might want to visit this site.” Would having a general guide to the other forums on STF so people will feel more comfortable when moving into them for a more detailed discussion. A lot of the more specific sites can be daunting if a newbie comes in on a very advanced discussion and it overwhelmed.
I think you also need some discussion on nuts and bolts (fasteners/standards). There is probably a lot to lean and when and when not to use a particular fastener.
Also a Shock-Talk thread would be nice. How to choose, how to set-up non-stock configurations, etc..
A general discussion (sticky or two) might be helpful on the differences between king & link and BJ beams, and swing vs. IRS transaxles. You know, basic things that a lot of dubbers are so use to that we don’t always think about getting back to explaining basics.

My opinion is worth slightly less than what you paid for it.

The STF Members are Making This in the NEWBIE Forum for a Sticky to be used in the STF, some subjects will be forum specific while others will be more general it will be up to the mods and upper management as to what is used, and where. I asked for every-one's help. I am one of the newbie mods, but I am also an STF member. I don't think it would be right for me to post this in any other forum other than the one I am assigned too. Now In a weeks time. The STF has great info on Lubrication it has already been posted on The Samba. If us new guys can do it just think what all of us can do together as Team STF.

There is and if there isn't we need that info here on the STF in our own threads. Even if we have to start new threads. This is the biggest and baddest Sticky I have tried to put together and without your guys help I don't see no light at the end of the tunnel. So guys grab a shovel and dig thru the threads on the STF and scoop up some info.Ol'fogasaurus wrote:somewhere there must be a bunch of posts on engine numbers and location, chassis numbers ans location, Alt vs. generator stands and (matching?)fuel pumps
