Airdreams1's 66 BAJA

Sorry I have no pics of it when i first started it. It had the Baja glass kit on it, bald tires, stock rims, it baerly ran, had no brakes because they leaked, no interior (i drove it home the 3 miles on a milk crate & ramed the curb to stop it. LOL), none of the lights worked, stock bug exhaust, & the list goes on & on & on!!!!
It now has a 1641 with a Webber progressive carb, engal 110 cam, 009 dizy, pertronix ignition & coil, 1.5 qt oil sump, full flowed case with external oil cooler & filter, stock doghouse cooler is still in place, sand seal & alum degree pully, temp & pressure gages & Header exhaust with quiet pack, 75 amp alternator. all the rest is stock. There may be some things Ive forgotten.
I put in a 68 long swing axle & adapted the 66 drums to it. Have the parts to convert to IRS & am waiting to get a 6 rib bus trans.
I beafed up the front tie rods w/ the sway bar welded on the inside & 1 inch steel pipe on the outside.

2001 Hyandi Accent rear seat

Ford probe front seets (used them because they had a hole so I could add some race belts.)

Added double tube bumpers & made a front & rear skid plate. (Will make the rear bumper attach to the cage soon.)
Here are the new brackets I made to mount my 2 inch signals in the double tube bumpers. I will put the new LED lights in when I can figure out how to make them blink.

closer look at the spare tire mount. I welded it to the roof.

customized E-brake (so i could use it with my seats)
Image

fancy rear view mirror (got it as a gift)
Image

Early orignal VW roller pedal asembly w/ alum gas pedal.
Image

have all New carpet, New headliner, & quarter panles to put on it.
have a New 1 pice window kit that Im going to instal.
Have some (almost) new Remington MUD BRUTE 31/10.5/15 for the rear.

Ive done lots of other custom mods to it & will post up more pics as I get a chance to take more pics. The weather here is bad so I have to take them in the garage.

That is the most original spare tire mount i think ive ever seen

Doesnt it block airflow to the cooler though? :?

Its the only place I could think of & the time to mount a 215/75/15
Its held up there without any problems for several thousand miles!
some were off road, but I dont jump the car.

How about this for ORIGINALITY?
Best way I could think of to fill in all the air holes. (didnt hyave my welder yet.) Thats the hood from my 57 that got creased by the tard @ the gas station in OR.

you won't need an 091 with a 1641. in fact a 1600 002 will work better ratio wise with the 31" tyres.

btw... you have one scary car there.

Defanatly will call.... Im trying to get a second motor built as a spare. I need some parts so i can finish it.

Still trying to figure out a name for it any ideas?
i thought Battle Beetle
1 of my friends said I should call it a "Dung Beetle"

As for the bus trans. I am making a custom tear drop trailer (out of a 64 bug & a custom frame) to pull behind my Baja for camping & shows, etc.
Would the 091 be better suited to towing? I also want to do a Subaru motor at some point.

well I should finaly have this ting on the road tomarrow! :D Its been over 3 years since it was last on the road. (way too many family issues to deal with & had a truck to drive. Its now dead.)

The only crappy thing is that in the state of IDAHO you have to get emmisions tested on cars that are 30 years old or younger. I had it licensed for less than a week in the state when the motor blew up (when it was 29 years old.) So I didnt get it tested.... They said if I ever get it running again that I would have to get it tested, no mater how old the car is! Well saturday I got the request in the mail to have it tested, so I guess Ill have to get it done. If I dont pass they make you spend $300 at a shop (cant be done by your self) trying to get it to pass. If you still fail, you get a waver for a year......

The problem with that is, if you dont dont pass you have to try again every year till you finaly do... What a JOKE!

I would think since its now 33+ years old there would be some sort of exception. I hope I can pass! cant afford to spend $300 @ some shop to try to get it to pass! Going to keep my fingers crossed...

Ill get some updated pics ASAP. Its rainy here so might be next week for the pics.

Just realized I didnt mention that I cut the front beam & added adjusters. When i did the job I turned the adjusters so i have it lifted about 1.5 inches. (+ it has all the adjustment) I later realized that I cant realy adjust it any more. It was nearly impossible to get the arms back on...

I cant seem to get the camber out of it. I turned the ball joints to there max & I still ware the out side of the tires. Is there any thing that I can try to do to correct the problem?

I like that idea, pretty slick. I've been trying to figure out where I was going to mount my spare, didn't want to block the rear window. This will work.

No. I bought them @ a goth shop when I lived in Phoenix.

The only draw back is when you hurt your self on them!
