visors and dome light

Post by steve_1125 »

Finally having my headliner replaced, had to replace a cracked windshield so figured why not (I was relieved to find a new windshield!). The visors and dome light also need to be replaced. Anyone have a source for these? Can they be interchanged with another VW type, such as bus, bug or 3s? Thanks :!: :D

The visors interchange with type 3 I'm pretty sure. The Dome light is rather unique. Check teh part number. I'll see what I have for spare. Ray

The visor out of a van fairly close in size and shape. I was going to give a set a try until I found a good pair of T4 ones.

Wildthings...was that just a good pair...or a new pair? New ones would be nice. I will check the micro fiche and see what the original part number was. May be we get lucky and its type 3. Ray

It was a used set out of the '74 412 I stripped. From the condition I am guessing they had been replaced in the not too distant past. I checked the length on the visors off of a bay bus today with that of the Type 4. They are an inch or so longer, but could reasonably be made to work. The only problem I see is that they interfer with the rear view mirror when in the down position.

No luck as far as part numbers go:
Here they are:

Sunvisor (left) color for all is #581 cloud white
411-857-551
models: 411,415,416,421,425,426,461-466
8-68-on
Sunvisor left w/mirror
412-857-551
models 412-422
8-68-on
Sunvisor/right w/mirror
411-857-552
8-68-on
models 411,421,461
sunvisor right
412-857-552
8-68-on
models: 422,425,426,462,465,466

But, I think the pad shape is very close or the same. It may simply be the plastic mount. The clip on the inner end is a 111 part number and is the same as type 3. Ray

Thanks for your responses & help. Well I saved the dome light, only a little chip, phew, the passenger visor was also saved but I need a new driver's side. I tried a new pair made aftermarket for the type 3, it didn't work :!: Where it attaches is angled differently. No worries, I am going to score a used driver's visor and will have both of them reshaped and upholstered to complement the new head liner :) All I will have left now is the dash, yep I was the one who failed to get the new one from Germany. Eventually, when I recoup from the liner work, will get the cracked dash off and send it down to justdashes.com. To be continued...
