A customer brought this in.He says it's called a "Hunter",and only 12 of them were ever made. This one was an unassembled body that has been stored since the 60's.The body is very well made, and uses a windshield from a 63'Vette.The pan has been shortened as well.It reminds me of an old Fiat.Anybody have any info on this ride? There's a few more pics in the Samba Gallery.Paul

Looks alot like an old Lotus Elan, especially in the headlight area. Interesting find...

Might be an A/D Hustler? Back in the day Autodynamics built a limited edition F/G body Elan look alike car called the Hustler. It used a shortened VW floorpan - most likely 84" wheelbase like the Deserter buggies they supplied. Not too much info out there on these cars, I believe A/D only built a handful of them. Not sure how you'd identify it as an A/D car - except maybe the wheelbase? I've got an old article of it somewhere, could email it if you'd like to read more.

Re-reading the article, I think what you have must be a Hustler. The article stated it used a Corvette windshield as you mentioned. Also according to the article: the Hustler used VW latches, hinges, hood release, wipers and inside window cranks. Also states the pop-up headlights were actuated by long mechanical cables. Reportedly 43 were built.
Looks like a super neat car - one well worth a high end restoration with some modern updates!

Looks like it could be an Elan, I'm not familar with ELans enough to know what changes they have. I know alot of Lotus bodies made it onto VW chassis as they were sold in kit forms only in England back in the days but turnkeys only in US. It even has the dimple on the nose where the badge would go and door shape is identical, but headlight door shape isn't the same. Or at least a replica of the Elan.
After further research, looks like a Hustler

lovely car, just had a look on samba too. that's great, is the owner gonna do a full rebuild? That's be great with a porsche style 2litre motor and setup suspension. could be a great little track car.

The owner informs me that it is a Hustler. He's considering selling it,although I have no idea what he's asking for it.If anyone's interested,I can send you his cell number. This guy is always wheelin n dealin cars, and he never seems to hang on to anything long enough to restore them.
