IHI RHB5 turbo going blowthru

Post by veilside »

ok, i got a IHI RHB5 turbo and im planning on going blow thru cuz i plan on using an intercooler, and im not really concerend if the whole system will fit all inside the deck-lid my questions are:

1. what other brand or types of fuel pumps are good to use? i know the holley ones or mostly used, but what about those aftermarket fuel pumps that are being used in the import rices , what brands are ok?
2. what are the necessary mods or things i need to do to my stock 1600dp carb to make it good enough for forced induction? or would it be ok if i use a webber proggresive 32/36 carb? im not sure what type of proggressive that is but all i know its a webber proggressive carb, and what stuffs i should do to the proggressive carbs to make it good enough for turbo use?

my engine is a stock 1600 dual-port with counter weight crank, 8 dowel-flywheel,
would a ENGLE110 cam be better to use?
or the stock ones are ok?
and lastly what are the necessary things i should change in the rockers and stuffs
im gonna use a 44X35 fully ported and polished heads , as i got them from a friend for about $100, or should i stick with the stock dualport heads?

all this will then be fitted to a 79' standard beetle(brazilian production) ,
im not sure how much the car weighs, but i've cut several holes on the sides of the body, aswell as in the sides of the doors, front and back apron the holes are about 5-6 inches in diameter, then i covered it in duct-tape , primed it , basecoated it, and clear coated it 6 times so its so shiny,
its sporting a roll-cage and a tube front end, THIS is a low-budget dragbug

IHI RHB5 turbo going blowthru

Theres alot to cover here and all the guys that really know everything obviously havent tackled this post. SO I will help. Mallory makes a holley style pump. I have heard that early 90's nissans have a good inline fuel pump, but you will need a regualtor.I am not sure about this one.

The stock solex or the progressive weber are both going to be difficult to run as a blow thru set up. You should consider maybe just
a single weber IDF or dellorto DRLA.

I think the engle 110 is okay with turbo, but so is stock by what I've heard. I am going to run a bugpack 4062 that I have laying around.
Definitely use the big vavled heads, the extra flow is going to help. Solid rocker shafts are a good idea, and maybe some chromoly pushrods if you are going to rev it high.
Go read thru all the past posts on this page because thats where I learned most of this stuff. All your questions have been answered before, thats why noone else posted on it. Have fun-Brian
