Oxyboxer cylinders

We discussed this many times before and got the idea (as did I) that a cylinder existed that could be used from Yamaha.
Well, I finally got hold of a used set of Nikasil 97mm pistons and cylinders and I have a very stron g feeling that these are a special item, made by Mahle. The set I have is as was when it was new and the pistons are definately Mahle (says so on the bottom).
The alu-nikasil cylinders have no markings otther then the usual "5-speed-gate shift symbol" on them , but are very much alike the Mahle-Oettinger set I have for the type 4: the material, machining, shape of the fins over the length of the bore: all very alike.
Here is a rather lousy pic of them. Better ones later when I have access again to my own computer (connection-server troubles).
For the record: these have the original wide wbx stud spacing and are quite long: they are made for a 82mm stroke with a piston that has a rather low piston pin location.

I keep reading about Yamaha pistons, but nobody is saying what model??

That was my point in the above post: Its not a cylinder from Yamaha!!, maybe just the piston, but what good does that do if you have no 97mm barrel??!
All doubt removed: its a Mahle made alu barrel! as well as a Mahle piston.
Some new pics for those (few obviously) that are interested in the oxy conversion:
And they fit nicely into my Limbach heads withe the original wbx studspacing:

Only one has been drilled, but the boss and the room for it between the cooling fins is there for the second one on the opposite side of the head...

Yes, I understand that, but please tell me what model Yamaha? I guess an XT 600 etc? which model though? or even a part number?

Sorry 51man, but I really have no idea.
The pistons in the set are specially made for this set and were/are sold by Limbach:

So, not yamaha, but Mahle. Its not even mahle made for yamaha! Its mahle made for Limbach. I hope we have cleared this misunderstanding for always now.
I really don't understand the interest for a 97 mm piston, when you have no cylinders. Pistons are always relatively easy/cheap to get hold of. Its the special cylinders that you should worry about IMHO...
Unless you know s/th I don't?

With regards to the yamaha pistons and cylinders after having a look at the Yamaha website i found 3 bikes that might be of use...
BT1100 95mm bore 75mm stroke aircooled
MT01 97mmbore 113mm stroke aircooled
the Virago star also shares the BT1100 motor.
as for parts price the skys the limit.

Why I would like to know what pistons people have used and what mods were needed..
I am staying water cooled and getting a bigger bore..

they have some larger bor cylinder kits for WBX. But unfortunately only for 9 to 9,5 CR.
Take a look.
But the 97´s sure are interesting for an aircooled conversion. With the rigth stuff inside and out, I think it will be possible to build a durable versatile big cc. T1 out of it. Bare Eliminators like Rocky´s approach are quite interesting.

My dad's shop just installed one of the 82x96 "2.4 liter" go westy engines in a customers Vanagon. It runs very smooth and pulls hard. Their big kit comes with larger fuel injectors to fix the fuel curve.

Unfortunately I am in Europe and neither of my bus' has Fi.. so the cam and Fi set up they use would be useless..
I will check out if they can sell me a set of pistons, either there new wiseco ones or maybe they have a set of the high CR ones lying around.. as I can run 98 ron and 100+ LPG...
Other wise I shall go wit the std 2.1 DJ spec engine with smoe light port work, 3 angle valves, matched vlos and a split duration cam, possibly with a larger carb.. I would like to got 2.4 but I think the cost of the shipping and import duty will be a real killer on the already pricy parts...
