Got it running
Hi All
I have my turbo wasserboxer bug running now. Im really pleased with the way its running. Im only using 8 psi at the momnet until i get it dynoed on Friday. Its way faster than my old setup with high comp & IDAs etc. My mate Leigh who has been a sort of a mentor in this process has a very quick 59 bug with turbo 2007 Berg motor reckons that my bug goes as hard as his on 8 psi, his does 8.55 @ 170 kph on the 1/8 on 15 psi. I had a few teathing problems, a slight oil leak from my oil return and not having enough preload on my waste gate stopped me from making reasonable boost.
Cant wait to go WRX hunting.
Regards Steve C

Hi Steve
There is nothing like a VW show on horizon to get me active. I actually took the car of the road 3 weeks ago to do the conversion, time flies when your having fun.
I had it dynoed today. My injectors maxed out at 70% duty cycle so we decided to be safe and leave the boost at 9 psi until I get some bigger injectors. It made 128 hp at the back wheels in 3rd gear. Im using an Autronic SMC unit and I had it upgraded to the latest Auto tune option (you can read about here http://www.turbofast.com.au/autronic/autotune.html)
Im not going to run my bug at the track, I worry about driving all that way and someting breaking.

Excellent Steve, do you recommend your dyno shop? Have you tried or know of others you wouldnt go to?
Thanks, Glenn.

Hi
The dyno guy was Steve from Quick Fit mufflers in Horsnby he is an Autronic guru but due to noise complaints he had to sell the dyno to a nearby workshop but still has full access to it. You really need to be careful because a wrong move by the dyno operater will kill your motor. A friend is trying to get his bug dynoed with Webbers and can find lots of people to do it but not many people can do webbers etc, but dont have spare gets to change when tunning.
The Autotune was amazingly fast and kind to the motor im a huge fan now. Im going to fit some bigger injectors soon and all that we will need to do to get it running is change the overall fuel ratio map by a certain % to get it close and a run up the Motorway will dial it in properly.

Great to hear the positive review of the Autotune feature. I have heard many good things about Autronic. Another question, what wideband O2 setup are you using? I will eventually buy an M&W setup. I have plenty of buddies who can use this superb tool.
Have fun,
jay

Hi Jay
Im not using an o2 sensor, the dyno guy uses 4 wire sensor with an Autronic gas analyser interface unit, it converts the o2 sensors reading for the ECU. You can read a bit about the unit here http://www.turbofast.com.au/autronic/analyzer.html They are $2,500 au, I would love to buy one some day.

Hi
Sorry about my lack of follow up. I have just got back from holidays in Fiji and now im off to a VW show on the North Coast of NSW. I have posted some quick shots of setup taken while putting the thing together. There is still a lot detaling and sorting to be done yet, you can see them here. http://www.clubvw.org.au/steve.htm
I had a quick squirt with new & modified (big exhaust) WRX tonight and toasted him, he got angry and jammed his brakes on at 120 kph with me car lenght off his back bumper, glad i have my Porsche brakes on.

Nice one Steve.
Got a question for you....
Whats the water/air intercooler off, I'm looking into fitting one to my blown motor. Whats the temp differential before/after the intercooler. Whats the loss of boost pressure with it on?
Thanks in advance.

Steve with that "I'm a hot WRX" jerk at what speed did you back off to let him in front ?.
I'm curious how yours hooks up off the line. Do you have any lag problems down low or do you have to hold the revs up and slip clutch to keep it on boost ?.
Steve I read that your intercooler is a water - air unit made by Stoker. Is it possible you could describe detail of surface area for heat transfer? Is it alloy?
One more thing did you say you got 11 L/100km , just cruising? Seems a little thirsty for a light car if you were just cruising. I Reckon Moogs beast would be more economical. However I think your car is awsome and I still am dying to see it.
Thanks, Glenn.

Hi
The WRX was actually in front of me coming into a corner when he nailed it. It got stuck into it and caught him in the corner and I had to hit the picks at about 120 kph.
The intercooler is all alloy and is the intercooler that was in Dave Stockers Oxyboxer Ghia. I dont have any measurements of it sorry.
The 11 litres per 100 kilometres was got cruising with a few 160 squirts and I nailed it up most slow lanes and hills just to feel it spool up and go, very addictive. My bug is not light, its 960 odd kilos.
I have only given it hard start once and it just bit and went. Im using sticky 17 inch tyres, 3.55 1st gear, 3.88 final drive and a Quaife LSD. At the moment I only have type 1 cvs. I have some Kombi ones in the garage which I will fit when put the 944 rear end in.

Steve the more you tell me the more I drool. But is this becoming an obsession , where will it end? What a fantastic obsession. Does the Porsche Box have close ratio 5 speed or do you want to go faster with overdrive 5th .?
