I have read about not being able to use a turbo from a diesel engine on a petrol (gas) engine because it will not have the correct seals for the oil flow, hence the oil will be sucked from the crankcase into the inlet..
I have been offered a turbo from a Citroen BX diesel.
What's the difference, surely the oil system needs to be kept separated from the fuel system whether gas or diesel??

The seal is used on a draw through type to prevent the oil being sucked across when the vaccum is high,such as when the throttle is closed after a high speed run ,it's not the boost it's the vac...

Gasoline or deisel is not an issue. Weather its a suck through or blow is. Also Deisels tend to run in the lower RPM band,most deisels will be a blow throgh type with the injectors either in the cylinder or at the port. If I may suggest it should be a blow through type. Match engine liter sizing. Also get information on the car which it came from, it will help you knowing where its power band (not when the cam comes on) but when boost starts. Because its a deisel maybe around 1800 to 2000 boost should be coming on. I hope this helps

The important thing is the sizes of the turbo and the size if your engine.
Diesel turbo's tend to be very small on the intake side,I.E too small for speed applications

Diesel turbo's are designed for exhaust gas temperatures 200°C lower than gasoline exhaust temps.

I haven't done anything except gather info.
I've got the Citroen turbo, but am more likely to wait until I can get the whole setup from a Renault 5 and use that method.
I'm only talking about a slightly modified 1600, and am willing to experiment a bit.
Have you done anything or just curious?
