blow thru...draw thru...?
blow thru...draw thru...?
Eric,
A draw through turbo system is when the turbo is located between the carb & the engine. So that the turbo literally sucks the air through the carb. A blow through turbo system is when the turbo is located between the air cleaner & the carb (or fuel injection system). So that the carb sees pressurized air from the turbo. IN GENERAL, draw through systems are usually less complex, cheaper to build or buy, and easier to tune. Blow through systems have the added complexity of specially modified dual carbs or fuel injection, but GENERALLY make more horsepower. In either case, I highly recommend the CB performance book on turbocharging the VW engine, & buying a exhaust O2 meter to monitor fuel mixture under actual conditions. From my experience, turbos are the best horsepower bang for the buck! Good luck!
