Hello, I'm just curious, is there any specific type of sand which you need to purchase to use in correlation with a sandblaster like this

Harbor carries several types of blast media on location.

I feed mine #20 or #30 sandblasting sand from the hardware or cement block store. Last I recall it is just under 10$ per 100lbs sack.

don't just use playsand, it clogs up very easily. Find Black Beauty, something like $12/100lb bag. Silica sand is good too, always use a respirator when blasting with any media though. Find a local spuuly store that sells insdutrial tools and materials, that's where I get my stuff from. But buy your media locally, $8-15 for a bag maybe cheap but that 100 lb shipping isn't...

You can buy Black Beauty at Manards or Home Depot.

Silica sand is deadly and shouldn't be used.

deadly if you're not using a proper fully enclosed respirator.
I use silica sand for my blaster. I wear full face shield, eye goggles, respirator, blasting gloves, a hat and my coveralls.
Never had a problem.

I use recycled crushed glass from the local Recycle depot.(New Zaeland) Comes in all different grades especially for blasting. I have tryed soda with mixed results.

Soda is a one time use media. So in a blast cabinet that recycles it's media, it's not too good. I use soda for carbs and it works like a dream!! Besides, there are a lot better medias for general blasting. Soda won'r effectively remove corrosion (kind of similar to plastic media). Here's a photo of some rare Porsche 356 carbs I recently restoredand used baking soda straight form the box!! For carbs there is nothing better!!
Below is my ultra-low-tech, low-dollar soda blaster I use. Yeah, it's just a length of vynil hose with a slit cut in it for my air wand. . . Works like a champ and is even pretty easy on the soda, so a $3 box really lasts!!!
I personally use aluminum oxide from Harbor Freight in my blast cabinet.

I had my entire car blasted with Black Beauty ( Coal Slag). It cost me 250 to blast the whole car and chasis. Although the tedious clean-up is a pain in the ass. I have had coal slag coming out of my car for months now. Everytime I move it, I find more and more hiding in there and falling out from every crack and crevess. LOL
