Haven't touched my engine project for months and decided today to do a bit of spanner turning. I went to fit my oil pump and it wouldn't go on the studs, looked at it for a bit and then I saw the problem...
One of the holes on my Shadek Oil pump is smaller than the others! It's no biggy as I can drill it out. Just a bit odd that one measures 8mm and the other three are 9.1mm. Any one else seen this before?

I've had all the necessary work done for the 30mm pump conversion so that side is all sorted. It's just that everytime I've trial fitted it though the case halves have been apart (so only using two of the holes and studs). Today was the first time with the case together so needed all four holes and studs only to find one of the mounting holes in the oil pump was too small! I'll fix it on the drill press tomorrow, just wondered if anyone else has come across this anomaly.Piledriver wrote:Make sure you have plenty of clearance for the cam bolts...

Yep, the cam gear has been modified so that the bolts are recessed... but what I'm seeing isn't to do with the oil pump to cam gear/camshaft clearance.MASSIVE TYPE IV wrote:What cam gear are you using and was it modified for the TI pump as well?
Sorry for the basic drawing, here's what I'm seeing when I measure the oil pump mounting holes:

Odd isn't it?

Easily fixed though.

Hi Matt,
In theory as the smallest hole was 8mm it *should* have fitted the over the corresponding M8 stud.... but it didn't, maybe the hole was slightly offset too? If I rotated the pump 180 degrees (no cam or camgear in the case) the oil pump would slide on a bit then get wedged, same thing if I rotated 90 degrees either way. Turn it to the correct orientation and it just wouldn't want to know at all.
I went to my workshop today and drilled the offending hole to 9mm and now it fits nice and snug. I'm assuming the main body of the pump that slides into the case will keep it centered.
Looks like I got a duff pump casting!
