oil cooler cover

Post by dooker »

i have this question...

i want to put olifilter to my type1 engine. now one opiton is to use this thing:

but i also want to have 4in1 collector and i was afraid that this oli pump with it's cover will get on the collectors way. does anyone have any experience with this? what should i use as cover then if i don't want to drill hole into block olichanal.

found this thing on CSP:

does this gives me cover with 2 holes where i can mount hose to and from the oli filter?

or should i use some third option?

Yes, it's similar to this one:

If you have a dual-relief case this is an option:

If you run an external cooler in series with the filter (ideally with a thermostatic bypass: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=235 ) you can use one of these pump covers on your existing pump after plugging its normal outlet:

and return the oil via a modified external-cooler adapter:

(drill through the casting to cross-connect the passages and plug one opening).

in this case, does this Oil Return Adapter affects anyhow work of the pressure valve which should be located there?

The purpose of that plunger & spring is to allow oil to go directly to the galleries without having to go to the cooler when it's cold and thick - it's for temperature control more than pressure, on a dual-relief case maximum pressure is controlled by the other plunger at the flywheel end. The result is longer warmup time, as John explains:

"As a nature of this product's operation, ALL the engine oil goes thru the oil cooler all the time. This results in slower warmup times, and we remind you to have your engine's thermostat and flaps operational and adjusted to get the engine temp up above 170 degrees as quickly as possible to reduce engine wear from oil that's too cool! This is not as good as the proper method of full-flow which is to drill and tap the case, but it is an option."

I agree with Marc. Even if you could make the first filter adapter fit and work, it would still put your filter too close to the exhaust in my opinion. it would most likely cause the oil temp(engine temp) to go up. The one Marc suggested is what I run, and found most everybody runs.
