I need more power!!

Post by Eddie Brown »

Hi. Being a bit bored on this Thanksgiving night, I decided to go out for a little drive. It seems that a few Hondas, Mustangs, and VR6 VW's were bored too.

I had just got out of the gas station for some jet fuel (ARCO 91), and a lowly S10 Pick Up wouldn't let me drink my English Toffee Capucchino in peace; so on a rolling start I called his bluff and without down shifting to 2nd gear, I just pulled away. Not content, he needed to go at the next light. Again, I just pulled away. On the looser fly by he honked. It's all good.

Then after a little while, cruising the same avenue I pulled behind some cars making a left turn. A Mustang GT, a couple of Civics, and a VR6 Golf. It seemed that they were in a hurry to go somewhere, so having an investigative mind, I decided to follow. In a little sprint, I passed all of them.

So at the next light, the Mustang is behind me, and a late 90's Civic is on my right. It seemed that they were upset at me...I don't know why?. But being that they were still in a hurry, we went at it again. Through 1st, I get the jump, but 2nd and 3rd gear in the Honda was fast enough to pull away. While all of this was happening, the Mustang is on my rear bumper. LOL!! I don't know what the Honda was running, but it sounded healthy for sure.

Is it my new paint job that makes me look faster? (6 cans of Pep Boys primer). I don't know?. But people don't like it when a little old Bettle gives them a little run for their money...

Well Eddie, you've got a start on the 2600, that's where you need to be starting. You've got the 1911 running good, start working on the 2.6er. The 2.6 should be enough power for the immediate future. :)

So true! I can cruise along in the right lane at about 60 and catch up to people. But once I move to the left, I gotta do 75+ to pass them :!:

Good to know Eddie. Hmm, that 2.6 does sound like it will make everyone else a simple dot on your rearview mirror. Just so you know, the 1910 I got is running better, but l am a greedy basta'd and already planning for more juice! lol

Keep up the great news man

LOL!!! It was fun though. My car is what it is. When I think about it, I'm surprised it runs as strong as is does. I just love it when people just look and my car and wonder if their gonna get some.

Tuna, I hope to see at Pomona!

Ephry. Good to see you got yours tuned better. Hopefully that turbo will fit the bill for you.

Hey Eddie

The bug is looking good.......kinda reminds me of another bug you used to own, interesting that you chose black.

You gonna be bored enough to make a drive down here sometime soon?
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....

Dang Eddie you are wanted

Post by new2bugs »

You are wanted up and down California!

We like you up here in the central valley they want you to come down that way.

Eddie Is helping me out with my clutch woes. I think I have a warped flywheel or something because anytime I try to get on it it clatters all to hell then pops out of 1st, and it slips in second.

Notch another one for the T4. 89 Civic CRX with J-spec DOHC motor...

Minding my own business...this CRX wouldn't leave my side for a few blocks. Finally I showed some interest, and we went. He couldn't catch me. As I'm stretching out 3rd gear (80mph), I look at him and slam it into 4th...bye bye.

I get to my destination, and the guy parks right next to me. As I get outta my bug he says: "Man!, that bug's quick!". We proceeded to have a nice little conversation. He showed me his motor. It was a 1.6 DOHC with some work to it. He said it was a J-spec or JDM...whatever it was it looked and sounded nice.

He was really complimentary of the bug. He said that when he was behind me, he noticed that the muffler looked kinda weird...hehe. Nice.

Man, I should've put a Web86 in it...it would really rip for a little motor....

It is interesting to listen to stories and try to figure out what configuation of T-4 is in a guys car. My car is a torque monster, off the line it is a dog. I have learned were my power is best used and that is where I blow away cars. Hondas are REV monsters, not much torque but can blast off the line like crazy.

It is at highway speeds were my bug kills. At highway speeds I pull away from most cars with just a foot to the floor or a down shift. As I have said my favorite tactic is when, even a BMW is on my tail while going up a hill trying to push me out of the way expecting me to pull over, I slow down then down shift and hit the gas. I become a small red speck in the distance and the car trying to push me out of their way is no longer on an ego trip after a bug blewaway their $60,000 car. They are left dazed with their foot to the floor and their engine lugging at the verge of pingging.

I would like more power but am very happy working with the power I have. Each car has it's special power curve, you just have to know where it is to get the most out of it.

PS- heavy stock flywheels are great once they get moving on highways.

I like the heavy flywheel. It has its advantages in driving, although I admit fast revving is not one of the said advantages, but really its not as bad as some people believe. It takes a cirtain amount of time to rev your engine to the max. The amount of time the flywheel adds is a fixed amount. If it takes an extra .5 seconds to rev from 3-6K with a heavy flywheel, that is all it will ever take, period. You can add that .5 to what ever the conditions are. I don't think it is that noticalble, but if you are chasing 1/4 mile ETs, then it adds up in each gearshift. That .5 seconds is a % of the time spent in each gear. By the time you are in 3rd, the % is small. And you know how us T4ers like 3rd and 4th! 8) 1st and 2nd is just a means to get us to 3 and 4.

Hey Eddie, a can of flat black BBQ paint on the muffler would match the rest of your "Stealth fighter"!

LOL! I know Monte, I'm sure you've seen my bug in the air over in the high desert. I just blend in pretty good with the other stealth fighters...

My car definately likes 3rd and 4th gears. But a different cam would've helped on the mid range and top end. I'm running a stock 210 FW. What funny is that my car idles low and quiet. So at a stop light, they're kinda intrigued. When I open it up it gets considerably louder. The inside of the car is quiet though.

Pretty soon i'll be getting the G-tech pro to see what kind of numbers I have to the wheels.

I really enjoy driving at highway speed and flooring it. That is when you can actually feel the heavy FLY WHEEL LAG ( ha, like turbo Lag ) !! Till it winds up and then the power just keeps coming and the MPH keep climbing. If you wind it up before a major mountain, you will not have a problem getting to the top.
