Cam follower bores??

Just stripped a friends 2110cc motor after it lost a big end.

The engine has done about 10,000 miles so was hoping to re-use the case for the rebuild but the cam follower bores in the case are completely shot. They are now oval and the followers wobble about.

The case was a new mag case and the cam is a C45 with scat lifters and duel springs.

Is this what to expect with big cams? should i be worried about the condition of the case on my 2275 with fk87?.

Was it a used case to begin with? Yes big cams are tougher on lifter bores and if they were a bit loose to begin with they wear pretty quickly. Try and find a good source to sleeve them and you will be in good shape. Do a search on lifter bores here on the STF and you will get some good ideas on who does a good job. Tim

It has been rumored that there was a bad batch of new cases a while back.If so that may explain the lifter bore wear problems I've seen in new cases with even mild cams in the past 24 months. It's getting so I feel the need to bush the lifter bores on evey case just for the peace of mind.I hope I'm wrong.

The case was brand new about 1 year ago.

I've stripped high milage original motors before and never seem this kind of wear.

Might look into bushing them in future if I use big cams.
