I Hot VWs or VW Trends just did a article on this a couple months ago. I have to take a look when I get home.

I can't find the issue. I know that there was an article in one the magazines. Maybe someone else here has the issue it was in.

I am currently in the process of doing a removable apron. I have the VW Trends at home with the tech article showing how to do it. It really is quite easy to do. I will try to get the date off the mag and post it in the next couple of days! There is one problem I am having. Mine is a '67 beetle, and I am not having much luck figuring out if the apron is the same as '66 & earlier or not. I need to replace the apron, but don't want to order the wrong one. Anyone know for sure? I would also like to find one w/out exhaust cutouts, and am not having much luck there either.

Removable Rear Apron Tech Article

Post by theboomanchu »

Per my earlier post today, the issue of VW Trends with the article regarding removable rear aprons is the August '2003 Issue. It is the one with a Ford 460 ci powered '56 Beetle on the cover. (subscription issue. I don't know what the newsstand issue had on the cover)

How about just welding the apron to the rear fenders?
Then all you have to do is unbolt the two fenders
and viola! Exposed rear end!

Nope. 67 is a one year only apron. It goes with the 1 year only decklid. I had to get one after the car I bought on Ebay ("I have no reason to believe it's ever been in an accident," she says) Had ben hit front and rear -- HARD!

There was a site I used to check out regularly, but I've lost the link...all I remember is it was "project 64" and I believe it was owned by a guy named Randy. He had a pretty good set of pics regarding the fiberglass fenders/hood/decklid, and paint. They had a baby and he hadn't updated the site in some time...

He also had a way to do a removable rear apron.
