1.7 T-4 in manx

Hi, I have a 1.7 (with 900 miles after a rebuild) that I got from a friend. I am building a manx type dune buggy. What I'd like is suggestions for simple and cheap power upgrades, its a W series motor so the comp is 8.2:1 and there is a guy in San Diego who will split the case and put a cam in it for about $200. I'd like 90 to 110 hp and an easy driver. Any suggestions about cams, carbs, headers, etc would be appreciated. If you have parts to sell my email is [email protected] Thanks rl

If you have a 1.7 out of a 914, be sure to change the flywheel to that of a bus, w/ a 1.7, you could get a dual carb setup out of a 72-73 bus, weber ICT, etc. If you plan to increase displacement I would go with weber IDF, I've been happy with mine. 050 dist. (a matter of preference over the 009)

I'm still seaching for a cost effective exhaust system that will give me some ground clearance, without buying the upright kit (delaying the inevitable).

Tom's page: typ IV secrets revealed has been an excellent resource for my Type 4 questions. To get there click on the tunacan productions link at the bottom of the message board, then on T4 secrets.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the plug Kokanee. I'd suggest that you get started with my Technical Articles at this address: http://www.tunacan.net/t4/tech/
They cover most of the things you'll need to know to get started with mating the Type 4 to your Manx.
