Hello,

Thought you guys would like the picture: Its an Apfelbeck head that Roberto is testing on the flow bench.
This is done to gain data in order to be able to design the right cam(s) for it.
I don't know absolute flowfigures yet.

The throttlebody you see is a Jenvey one.
Just a recap: Overhead cam, two intake valves, one exhaust valve, twin sparkplugs.

Greetings,
Walter

Thanks Jake, Paul :)

Do any of you know the flow numbers of what top flowing type 4 heads make?
We obviously need to have some numbers to compare them to.

Sam, they were made by Ludwig Apfelbeck some 20 years ago. The man himself died 10 years ago.

Thanks,
Walter

This might not help you much but here are some flow numbers for a ported 2.0L 914 head.

Thats a pretty good article Alpine!

Was this Apfelbec head for the Type 4 engine? I assume it was, pretty damn cool....

That red dyed exh port looks like a crack waiting to happen!

I'd LOVE to see a type IV head that would flow 200 @26.

Thanks for the numbers Alpine! great info!

Bobby, yes those pictured are for the type 4 head. Actually there is evidence that Apfelbeck also made casts for a two valve OHC type 1 heads, but have never seen one of those in the flesh.

Jake, I guess the game is on haha! Although I believe its not fair to compare OHC with pushrod operated heads.

Take care,
Walter

Nope, BUT Mine should make 200 out the exhaust port!

Cool!

But be warned: Apfelbeck suggested that for race engines (those were Formula V days with 1600cc type 4's) two 39mm intakes and one 46mm exhaust vlaves should be used 8)

Promises, promises.

Well, we all know sometimes you need some 'motivation' to move some items up your priority ladder LOL

Take care,
Walter

It can only go so fast... Most of it now is out of my hands and in "others" hands..

They'll do fine, but don't look for ANYTHING for a year..

Right now I'm concentrating on some cam/lifter stuff and still working on the TI DTM, about to start the 911 shroud upgrade too.
