Mallory spec's for 2.0 Bus

Post by regis101 »

Greetings. Unless it will give away some trade secrets, can you recommend timing spec's and curve for the Mallory Uni-Lite when installed in a stock 2.0 FI bus engine. Thanks in advance

12 degrees initial advance, 28-30 full and a pair of Grey springs...

That'll get you close, but don't slap a suite on me if you fry something with those specs, someone tried that two years ago.

Rest easy on this one. It'd be more like, " Woo Hoo, wild ride. Let's build another." So am I to think that 12* initial isn't too much for an aircooled? The deal is that I bought a Mallory unit from AC.net a while back. The vacuum pod hit the cold start valve. Didn't want to re-index the dizzy drive gear so it sits on the shelf. Lately, I've been spinning VW dizzy's from various years on a Sun machine and plotting the curves. Terrible results from the parts-is-parts rebuild world as compared to stock Bentley spec's. I bought an SVDA from AC.net recently. Installed it yesterday after spinning it on the machine. My graph showed it being a little lazier than an 009 but it works well so far. A definate improvement from the stock rebuild that I had. So the Mallory. I'm thinking that since I cannot turn the dizzy housing enough to bring the rotor/pick-up in sync due to the pod hitting the cold start valve, I will re-index the pick-up module. Me and the cronies have enough brain power to achieve this feat.

If I though 12 was too much, I wouldn't recommend it. The engine only idles at 12, piston speed and RPM are low.. I have 14 degrees on my 912 engine and it has 43K on it.

Every engine is different, try 12 and if it don't like it, try less.. Its all trial and error, thats the way I had to learn it.

Yeah, I'm with ya. At 7.5 initial, the full mechanical is 22-24. Bringing up the initial to 12 will give the full at ~30. This is what JC from AC.net recommended for me. I'll keep it at 7.5 for a few weeks letting things loosen up a bit. Then I'll try ~12. The FLAP rebuild liked 12. Thanks

Thats the whole thing.... The 7.5 runs su[per retarded, thats why guys fight carb issues all the time.. Its not the carb(s) its the fact that there is not enough fire to light the fuel..
