CB lowered spindles question

Are CB's lowered spindles really a 1/2" narrower than other brands? When lowered spindles first came out I bought a set (don't know from who anymore) and if CB's are narrower I would be interested in them.

These are for drum brakes.

i'm not really sure about this, but i thought cb's spindles were the only ones that didn't widen the track. theirs are forged spindles, while the others are welded making them 1/2 inch wider than stock. maybe somebody else would know for sure but i hope this helps!

I bought a set of the welded spindles about 3 years ago for my 56 sedan. Then about a year ago I purchased a set from CB thinking it would narrow the stance a bit so my tires woulden't rub. NO LUCK!!!! everything stayed the same. Then I had the front end aligned and installed a set of caster shims. NOW,,,,no rubbing. Good luck with yours.

hey chris,
it's weird how cb states that their dropped spindles will widen the track by 1" in the
link pin spindle description but not in the
ball joint description:

they only say that theirs are stronger and narrower than welded ones. it sounds like they are still wider than stock after reading it again, but all this time i have been thinking they were the same.

Just got off the phone with the CB folks, and the tech guy I talked to said:
" The lowered BALL JOINT spindles are aprox. 1/4" wider than the stock spindles and narrower than most welded type lowered spindles, and the link pin lowered spindles are a little wider than the ball joint type." I did order them and will find out in about a week or so....and we'll see!! So my next emoticon from them will be

Interesting...but good to know. I'm trying to build a database of sorts in this one post...It'd be great if you could contribute some useful numbers on the conversion.

Hi Chris,
Yes, I will keep you informed and soon as I get them I will compare them to my stock and welded spindles and will tell you what the differences are.

OK, I got my new CB spindles. From what I can measure between the stock, welded, and CB's spindles are as follows: The CB's are "beefy" and are aprox. 3/8" wider than the stock ones and aprox. 1/4" narrower than my welded ones. I measured from the center of the upper balljoint hole to the outer part of the spindle where the drum backing plate bolts on. So basically not a whole lot narrower than the welded type but they are made very well. I hope this info helps.
Just a side note about CB Performance, I ordered them Friday 10-31-03 and was told it would take a week and a half..got them Friday 11-7-03...cool, not bad from Ca. to Pa.
