Hi guys, I am very interested in installing a flat 6 3liter 911 motor and tranny in a 73 beetle. Anyone have any info on such a conversion???

I seen one in a late model bus.. Not sure about a bug though.. That would be a tight fit.. (without heavy modifications)

I have seen a few 911 engined bugs when I did a search on the net, but hardly found any info on them. I know that if the engine is positioned where the type 1 engine is, it will be sticking out further back than the bumper, but what i would love to know is if I can push the engine towards the front of the car, and still have an acceptable angle for the drive axles to work properly.

Maybe even a mid engine would be cool, but the 911 tranny would have to be modified (if possible) to turn the wheels the right way. Anyone know anything??

To modify it you would have to flip the ring and pinion, but the best way is to move the transmission forward, I think I read that the most you can move it foreward is 100mm, which is around 4in. but since you are using a longer porsche transsimission, it will be hard becuase it takes even more motification to get it there, good luck. Also why do you want to do this? You would build a kick ass vw engine for around 8k, plus it all bolts up, and if you want to use a porsche transmission it is a much earier install

Why do that when you can get more power than a stock 911 from a modified Type-4 at less expense?

Be prepared to have it hang out the back. And put some weight in the spare tire well to keep the front tires on the grond.

move the engine and tranny forward and it can fit but like was said earlier you can get more power from a type4 for a lot less cash.

Yes, you can get more power with a type 4 than a stock 911, but who said it's gonna be stock? I modified my 911 Carrera to 600rwhp.

Yea, sure you did. If you were such a genius, you wouldn't even bother asking if it could be put in a Bug.

if you can afford to modify a 911 engine then you can afford the porsche to put it in, forget the beetle

First of all, John is a dick. I love beetles, but never actually had one to take any measurements. I was looking at a 73, and I have a few extra 911 motors at my shop (all leftovers from turbo conversions) so i thought i would ask you guys, the conversion experts, before I buy the bug just to take measurements. Idiot...

Hi Stroker, thanks. I never realized the "guest" screen name! I figured i automatically logged in.
I started repairing and modifying water cooled VW's and other German cars, including engine swaps, etc... but have recently started repairing and building 911 street and track cars. My speciality is turbocharging.
