Bodywork Tutorials

Post by GhiaMonster »

Is there anyplace I can go on the web for a bodywork tutorial? I'm mostly looking for uses of various tools like the shrinking hammer (dolly?) and
a 'slap file'. Also techniques...

I plan on doing most of the bodywork on my Ghia and have the paint shop do the final prep and paint. Hell, once I get done with body and primer, I may just shoot it too!

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks

Oh yeah, lots of good sites out there:

http://www.tinmantech.com/

and if you are into shaping here is a great how-to on building your own benchtop English wheel.

Works surpisingly well on 18ga and lighter. I used a screw out of a Pony wood clamp as a tensioner instead of the adjustable steering column - just what I had handy. Total of about $12 in parts, a little welding and I was wheeling...

Hi Mike,

The shrinking hammers are next to worthless as they mark the metal and do very little shrinking. I'm making a video that has some metal-finishing in it... but it's mostly about making your fenders wider by stretching. Some of the same techniques used for body work will be included. In the meantime here is an article with some info, including the use of a shrinking disc which in my opinion is the single best tool for metal-finishing ever invented:

And a link to my albums with some more information:

Whoa ...

John is my hero for the day. I have seen lots of people using shrinking disks lately. Going to have to get me one of those. What was your po' man's disk made from?

A good book, as well: The Keys to Metal Bumping.

Used to be put out by Eastwood, and the Karmann Ghia Club of North America had reprint rights.
