Goldie Sunroof Question

I am about ready to graft a Goldie Sunroof clip into my '64 sedan. The current plan is to trim the sunroof section down to where there is about an inch and a half lip remaining. Then cut a hole about .5 inch smaller in the roof and run a flang around the edge. Then drop it in place and weld her up. Sounds easy doesnt it.
Anyway the only thing I am not sure how to handle are the 3 braces at the front of the sunroof clip. They tuck up over the lip of the section above the windshield. My first thoughts were to whack them out but then I decided that VW probably put them there for a reason. I wanted to check what others have done with these 3 braces.
It doesnt look like you can get to the back side to weld them so my current thinking would be to trim them a bit and weld them from underneath. Not exactly factory looking but you shouldnt be able to tell with the headliner installed. Any other thoughs on what to do?
Thanks,
Louis B
