Chop top Questions?

Post by albersondh »

Well I have finalized the deal and Im now going to be buying a 67 chop with sun roof. This thing is in very rough shape no paint still needs much body work but the hard stuff is done "the chop". It has no windows and thats were my question comes in. This car will be used for alot of racing so I want to keep it as light as possible. I was thinking of using lexan windows, can I get custom fit lexan windows and were from? By using the lexan windows Ill be doing away with the rubber window seals right. I want to mout the lexan so its flush or very close to flush with the body, I dont want it sunk in. I see pictures of cars with leaxan and it looks like the lexan is riveted in place or something how is it held in place? It needs to be water proof so I want to use some type of sealant silicone apoxy or somthing were the lexan touches the body. Can I do this and have it look good without the sealant showing through the lexan? How would you do it? Thanks. Im sure this will be the first of many more questions.

There are a few ways to do that.first of as far as pre fit goes.? Don't know about that. First you must get the right size leaxan make a template out of cardboard and make sure it fits well up into your window channel cut the leaxan to the same size.if you have weather strip that will fit into the channel I would use it (makes removal a lot easier ) .If not then run a couple of wraps around the leaxan with ellectrical tape(the outside edge to protect the edges and the give a little insulation from the body) it will (or should not be visable when glass in place) be hidden by the body Then install the glass, push it up into position and place blocks in the channel to push it out to seal agaist the outer skin. Leave spaces between the blocks to fill with a two part plastic repair or a eurethane sealnt.this will hold the glass tight to the body. Then get a small tip and apply a bead of saelant around the outter glass (done right it will look like a fine rubber seal around the glass ) do this after it is painted....the final outer sealing part. :D hope this helps and good luck with your new ride 8) When doing this concider options along the way Ie: using fuel line for the gap between the inner frame and glass ,slicing fuel line and running around the outer edge instead of tape (will center your glass in the channel..) there are many ways to do the same thing just use your imagination..thats why we have one.........
