rod side clearance

I have a DPR welded 78 crank and Scat I-beam rods... what is the minimum rod side clearance with this side up?

I don't know about that combination specifically, but .004" should be the bare minimum rod sideclearance in anything IMO.

I think you want to shoot for around .012-.016. In a performance application looser is better to get a bit more splash down to the cam lobes. Where is it at right now? Tim

Every set of Scat I beams I have used or sold have had to be surface ground to get the proper side clearance. I like .010 to .014 myself.

Right now it is right at .007

Every journal is at .007? I would rather have a little more myself.
Got access to a machine shop? Have them whack .005-.007 total off the sides and you should be good to go. My machinist takes an equal amount off both sides to get the total I specify. Don't know if that is really necessary, but he does it anyway.

Better that way than too loose, at least it's simple to fix.
.007" would be enough for a mild street engine, but I suppose your screen name should be a clue that this engine will be worked hard, huh?
Check that all journals/rods are the same in case you have to do selective fitting (check rod lengths too), then get the rods cut for ~.012" or so. FWIW, max stock spec is .016" and the wear limit is .027".
