Just trying to keep in contact with the board here. I`m still in Portland Oregon working on my Thing. Since I`ve been here I have worked on four cars . A 356 Speedster, a Myers Manx, my Veep and a T-4 powered sandrail. Now at last I am doing the job I came here to do. Beginning Monday work is underway on the Thing. I have removed to body now. There were some issues to be addressed within the inner body panels. The pan and lower body will get the POR 15 treatment. Also the fact that all else will be easier with the body removed. The trans is going to be replaced with a pyramid bus unit, 2x3 rear trailing arms, body lift, pancake engine, and 6" wider front beam.
Its all down hill from here and feels great to be doing my own car now. Will keep you posted.I pray for no further delays. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Bob congratulation on your projects. All sound very interesting. I like your idea about fixing the Thing up as an allterrain Thing. I´ll keep checking as your work goes on.

Pedro, thanks for the words of encouragement. The idea here is to make the car suitable to the conditions. Form follows function as they say. Where I live the roads are very rough so I have borrowed technology from the off-road guys to adapt to the situation. Today I removed the beam and took it to Mark Johnson of Blind Chicken Racing ( www.blindchickenracing.com ). We will widen it by six inches tomorrow. That is the same as the rear will come out to be when the arms are changed. Will keep you informed. Good luck. Bob Ingman

The beam is now six inches wider with one set of adjusters added. The steering box must be moved over. The tie rods must be lengthened and the uprights that bolt to the framehead must be relocated as well. All in all it was worth the time and expense.
I was able to use my beam entirely with the exception of needing an additional pair of springs. Good luck. Will ad to this thread soon when there is more to report. Bob Ingman
