Is it possible to use a T1 crank in a T5 case?

Since I have a new DMS 78.4mm (std rod / 10 under mains) T1 stroker sitting on the shelf and I can get a 1.9 T5 case easily it might make for a good fit if at all possible.

I hate to pay for another crank! Granted a T5 crank mod would be custom anyway. But if I had to do it... 84mm from a 76 core

Sell the crank, have the 76 stroked, use a 5 bolt flywheel, stick with the Type 5 rear seal.
My reccomendation to those considering this conversion...

Yeah, you can use a type one crank in a wassercase.!

There is two problems:

Mainbearings: You need to use a combination of a wasserboxer bearings and a type1 thrustbearing (you can use the bearing for a type1 case that has been machined 1mm on the thrustsurface = the wbxcase is 21mm wide where the bearing go)

Flywheel seal surface: the wbx oilseal is bigger than the type1, so you need to machine a ring and have it crimped on the type1 flywheel to have a surface that mates up yo the oilseal..

That´s it...!

But as joe put it it is easier to use a wbx 76.4mm crank and flywheel. (if you had a really big type1 strokercrank (up to 90mm!)lying around, it would be the way to go)

Morten, the thrust in the 1.9 is the Type IV diameter..

This creates a problem, you can't use a Type I bearing here..

Silver 77: Get a 2.1 case and use your stroker bug crank. We have already installed a 86mm in a 2.1 but you can go bigger. The cam to c-weights are the problem with some cranks. Thanks Rocky

Type I thrust?

Joe I use the T-1 flywheel brg. With .040 LB & .040 thrust. & use the other three 2.1 boxer brgs. I have also A-bored the center to std bug size & used the T-1 to T-4 adapter brg. for the bug pack t-4 center main crank if its flanged, I cut 2 brgs to made one thrust brg. It costs $ for all the brgs but if you what something you have to go for it.Thanks Rocky

Joe on the 1.9 case I know someone that was making the rear thrust brg. Maybe he could make a brg 1.9 thrust & o.d. but with a bug size to the crank?? Jake said he knew some that was making brgs also! Reason there are a lot of low price 1.9 cases out there. The guy I know was getting 45.00 for just the thrust brg. before the last batch of 1.9 & 2.1 german brgs came in about 4 mouths ago. Thanks Rocky

Hey Silver77, I am going to hang on to the crank until I get the motor situation completely done. I still have a virgin T1 AE case that I might hang this bad boy in.

Granted if the 2.1 works like I think it will both might be FS on day.

I must be braindead I know. But I still do not understand how you overcame the problem with T4 bearing size at the flywheel ! ?

Could you please explain that again, so even I understand that. Appreciate it. as I have a Promoly 88 mm crank on the shelf that I have been working on installing in a WBX case. But could´nt figure that one out.

Farmer, You must use t-1 end play shims & yes they only cover part of the brg & part of the flywheel, but its the only way unless you make shims with T-1 I.D. & T-4 O.D. & machine & weld a ring on the flywheel to make it T-4 size at the shim area.Thanks Rocky

Farmer, You must use a 2.1 case to use a bug main size crank & use A 1mm LB brg With a 1mm os thrust The above post was for the people that Have had their cranks welded built up at the thrust brg to T-4 size or have had a berg crank made with all T-4 mains,And yes they have to LB the center two mains to std bug size and use a special adapter brg to make the center brgs for T-4 cranks.Thanks Rocky
