hi, i have been reviewing the past posts and i cant seem to get a final answer, which cylinders are the thickest. i read that the 90.5 were the thickest, then somewhere else it said 94's were the thickest, and then somewhere else it said 88's were the thickest. i thought that 88's were the thinnest! i am looking to build a bigger motor and since i have a type 3, cooling is an issue. so can someone point me in the right direction. thanks.

SLIP IN 88's are the thinnest. MACHINE IN 88's are the thickest. I think they are also more expensive than 90.5's or 94's as well.

Some say the 87's, 92's and slip in 88's are too thin. The 94's are not much thicker then the 87's.

the 94mm cylinders are the same thickness as the stock 85.5mm cylinders. They run hotter because there is less fin. The overall size is the same but the cylinders are larger so that equals less fins.

The thickness is relative to the overall size...

This never seems to be adressed as part of the equation...

Thermal overloading needs to be considered, it is the real factor.

NO THEY'RE NOT!

I dont know where or when this myth was started, but i do know that Marc has stepped in numerous times and given the actual measurements of the wall thickness from each of the available cylinders (85.5 - 94mm) surprisingly enough, the wall thicknesses of slip in 87's and 94's are very close!

i dont think a fair comparison is wall thickness, ie its the thickness compared to the bore, so if a 94 is this same as an 87 its relative thickness is less, then factor in less cooling fin area, no thanks. i have deliberated long and hard on my engine build, i have decided to skip the 94s, and go 90.5, or 88 machine in, it would really be nice if the 88strokers were available, i hate a driving down the freeway at 70-75 into a 30 mph headwind at 90 degrees and knowing my engine is on the verge of a meltdown, these conditions happen all the time in the columbia river gorge in the summer.
