Clearancing crank/cam

I'm practicing building a 2180cc type 1 motor before I build my 2276 turbo monster. I'm up to the point where I check the rotating assembly for clearance, and everything clears except this one point. My question is: Do I take material off the rods, or off the cam? I haven't had the assembly dynamically balanced yet.
Case: AS41 from my previous 2180 engine
Crank: GEX welded/counterweighted 82mm
Rods: Reconditioned stock VW
Cam: Engle W125

Take material from both.
The rods will need rebalancing end to end, not just overall. The clearance issues look pretty severe.

The cam can be clearanced on a bench grinder.
Are those stroker rods or just stock rods? anyway, they need to be clearanced. Best left to a VW shop like Rimco.

send the cam to be stroker clearence then when you balence the rods it should clearence them it should go together atfer that

The shop that's going to balance it is going to do the clearancing also... for a fee.

You can clearance the cam on a bench grinder and not have to worrie with the rods....Stock rods also have some clearance issues--Is why I use scat I-beams to help with clearance issues....The nice thing about clearanceing the cam instead of the rods is no rebalceing.....

With a 74 or 78 crank is there a need to clearence the cam/crank/rods ?

Usually not, but it depends on the rods. CB Unitech rods will clear easily. Tim

Leave the rods alone. Five minutes with a die grinder and the cam is clearanced. Bench grinder and lath take longer My Weber and Rimco stroker rods did not need the cam to be clearanced. I installed Rev Master I beams and it needed quite a bit. The stock rod bolts and nuts might be a weak point. At this point it would be worth the money to get a set of CB H beam rods. Once you subtract the price of the ARP 200 bolts from the price they are the same price as the Unitechs.
