so... just curious on how it is done elsewhere? if your kit car registered as a vw or as something else? insured?
here in connecticut, once the vehicle is registered/inspected you can do with it as you wish. so if it is registered as a bug, and you change the body, DMV still considers it a bug. however if you build the kit and have the car registered, they assign you a "connecticut vehicle ID #" as well as go through the car with a fine-toothed comb...
insurance... i have NO idea....

in Maryland they just ask for the title of an old VW (no picts or proof neccessary). Not sure if that's 100% legal but everyone does it. I do have a real kit title for my Sebring but doesn't qualify yet for historic tags so for the meantime using VW title. To insure kits under kit titles, you may have to go with specialized insurance companies. Mine's insured as a regular VW.
