New Thing

Post by JB181 »

New to the board just picked up my new 73 Thing last week for $1200.00. Getting ready to replace the pan, guy owned it last didn't do to good of a job on it. I'am going rebuild it for off-road, pre-runner setup. I want to put 15in tires I have seen 235/75/15 also would like to use center lines rims what size should I use? 15X10 in rear and 15X5 in the front? Any info would be great.

Thanks Jesse

Congratulations on the Thing. Those wheel widths seem a bit wide. Personally I use 7" and 3 1/2" with 235 and 215 tires. This works well if you`re driving on the street because it will keep your wheels inside the fenders and your @$$ out of trouble. Do`nt go for that fat tire 4x4 look. Its hard on parts period. Good luck. Keep us posted. Bob Ingman

Jesse I`ve seen your post over on the samba thing forum.(I`ve talked to you under the name Grey Trekker). Glad you found us here. If you can try to put up some photos of your thing as it is now. Thanks for joining us here. Good luck. Bob Ingman

This site is great. New to VW things, I have a lot of the things to ask so it's good to have a site like this. Right now I have a 65 Bus standard and my 73 Thing. I'll post picture as the rebuild comes along.

Thanks Jesse
