BlindChickenRacing.com's Insayn's tube bender?

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Where can one of these be bought and for how much moolah? We have a horizontal style bender here, bolts to the floor of the shop, but it takes mucho leverage to bend the bars...that hydraulic setup kicks some serious hiney. It seems Insayn has very good luck with it, anyone else have any input on this style bender?

I 'borrowed' this pic from BlindChickenRacing.com, and havnt quite stopped oogling it yet.

to Insayn: I just read through your red/white/black-Orange Baja build pages. I must say, I fully understand the term "Orange Bowling" now. Of course, after smacking a small boulder sideways with my pass. rear control arm, there wont be much of any duning happening with my baja for a while. Image New parts cost money...and after having the daily driver car snap a timing belt, lunching valves and knicking pistons...my money is going into the driver. Any cheap solutions to fixing my Swing Axle appearing pass. control arm would be greatly appreciated.

I think that bender works very well. You can't buy one just like it since it was designed to have the jack move rather than the tube but it is very similar to the pro-tools upright bender.
As for the trailing arm, do you want another one? I have a couple extras that are still straight and all I want is the bearing carrier which I could take out of your bent one.

I have heated them, bent them back and reenforced them before.

GDRBO - Your back! Have a good trip? Speaking of bearing carriers, I just found out this week that my wife's aunt and uncle are neighbors of the owner of Precision Alloy. And I guess they are pretty good friends.

Eriksport - It goes in spurts with the bender. I get e-mails 2 or 3 at a time for a week or so, then a few weeks go by, and the e-mails start all over again. It was not hard to build, as I did not have drawings to go from, just chalk, concrete floor, and a pile of parts. Trailing arms are an easy target, and the least of your pain. The daily driver is definetely more of money sucker then anything.

I recently purchased a Pro-Tools bender and would recommend it to anyone....as long as you don't mind pumping a jack handle.
I built a rollcage for my Sister's Manx the day after the bender arrived and I am very pleased with the quality of the bends and if I must say....The quality of the rollcage.
Seeing that the only tubing I have bent previously was brake line tubing.
I wanted to post a picture but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it.

Crash-I've got a closer local friend checking his sources for a control arm, but if he cant find one, then I'll let you know.

As it is, I need to get my driver back on the road again. Interferance motors suck. Its like a rubberband gun that you wound too tight. Band snaps, finger hurts, except in this case, the valves and pistons got friendly. I am upgrading the neon to a PT Cruiser 2.4 liter, so hopefully in the next few weeks, I'll be able to get working on the baja again. I've actually been very tempted to go to different arms altogether. Nothing super dramatic, 2X3? If I go much longer than stock, the angles I cut in the rear fenders wont line up anymore. I did prove the point that stock bug parts can only take "so much" abuse before something breaks. I took some more pics of the aftermath today, and a couple 15 second vids with my digicam, they're under www.nwneon.net/erik/images/ titled ClubMeet&Wheels or something like that. I've been sick the last couple days, so today was the first time I actually walked out in the muck I caused on Saturday. I must say, its nice to have understanding neighbors. This one guy came down from a couple houses up the street...thought someone was crashed in the ditch again, and then decided to stay and watch me slide around in the mud for 20 minutes...he came over and intro'd himself, said he was tempted to come join me with his Jeep. It was great.

anyways, thanks for the input on the arms. I might have to call on BlindChickenRacing.com's help for custom arms, maybe even some sponsership? hehe, I have lots of unscripted sheet metal I'd be willing to trade for a Jr.Membership in the club, and maybe a slight discount on parts. Image Just dreaming.
Image the shiney spot is a quarter I used to reference the size of the rock, and the hard to see lump to the right of the rock is where I moved it from with the wheel of the car. Image

Yes it was a good trip! Warmer than here but only in the low to mid 60s. I got by in "T" shirts by staying in the sun. I did get a couple of buggy pics but I haven't finished the roll yet, I'll keep working on it! I should also have a pic of my decorated cactus (Mexican Christmas Tree).

Maybe take some updated pics of your buggy project, and finish off the roll of film?
