Hello,I have a stock type4 2.0 with the original fuel injection.
First thanks for the vacume line help.
I charged the battery and when I crank her over she trys to start but the fuel pump isnt getting power. When I take the air filter out and push on the flaper valve in side the air flow meter the pump starts and the motor runs fine.I guess it is the double relay that is not working correctly.I have to purchase a test light and a multi meter to test these items .Does it sound like I am checking the proper item.I know the motor is good it was just rebuilt by jake but the only items I didnt send him during the rebuild where the fuel pump and double relay. Please help,Thanks Ken
btw, it ran before the rebuild just had no power and leaky fuel and vacume lines which made it impossible to get it to idle.

Is it in a bus or type IV
Yes the dual relay is a good starting place to look--
they can be open up and made to manually operate by pushing on the relay pivot contacts sorry don't remember which one
fuses good?

I removed the double relay and opened it up,Yes I can move the one contact over and the fuel pump runs, motor only runs for a second or two then it dies. The other relay(2 in one)is forced to make contact when the ignition is in the run position.I think it is time to walk away and take a break.Keep the ideas coming,ThanksKen

Here is a long shot and I'm not sure if it is fail-safe. The double relay has 11 pins. There are two separate plugs to plug in. One has 6 and the other has 5. Is it possible to cross them up? I dunno

the AFM should close a set of points as you turn it over, make sure your harness is plugged in good and check the pins in the connector. sounds like if you can jam a screw driver in there and move the flapper that the points inside AFM are corroded or not touching.

I ran the teats with a volt and ohm meter and all checks out good. The fuel pump still will not turn on with the ignition switch in the cranking mode,If I hot wire it it works but the motor only sputters likre not enough pressure. How do I run a pressure check.I see the driver side fuel rail has a fitting with a screw in it.Do I make up some fittings to work with this or should I just mount a direct read gage with a tee in the fuel line say before or after the cold start valve.thanks Ken

Greetings. Along with what Rich said. If the pump works when you manually push the flapper, then the circuit is complete. Take off the cover to the AFM. The fuel pump contacts are a small set of points on the right side. ( The first two terminals on the right.) When crankin' the engine, the flap will move a certain amount due to incoming air. Perhaps the contacts are open too wide. I set mine so that they are barely open at rest. You are probably pushing the flapper further manually than what the engine pushes it when starting.
