The shop were I work is currently looking for a 914 (73-74)to run in PCA, SCCA and DE events. We would like to find one in NC or SC. Most of the cars we have looked at have been total junk! Does anyone have a complete (80-100%) car that they would be willing to sell? I have run down a couple 914-6's but that is out of my personal intrests(flat 4's). Thanx!

Yes,
please buy it from him so he stops advertising it
every single week on the Rennlist...
Somehow, I think he doesn't really want to sell it. He's been trying for a couple of years now and nobody's bought it yet.

We found a car here in NC last night...a 73. It is complete minus motor and trans, but very solid. Only rust is "factory"...under the battery. After some horse trading we were able to get the car for installing a set of door bars to the existing cage in the guy's 914-6 (3.2L) racer...not a bad deal!!
I saw the acid dipped 914 at Roebling Road in Ga a few weeks ago...nice start for someone who wants to build a GT class car.
Thanks

what exactly is acid dipping? i did a search on it at google but only came up with forums with other people talking about it, not an explination.
is it like galvanising?
i was thinking of galvinising my car. of course i would sand off the body though so it looked good. being in south florida, alot there is ALOT of places to get things galvanised, espically boat trailers so it would not be very much money to get my car done.

Acid dipping a race car is done to eat away metal to reduce weight. It also weakens the structure, so it is practical only if a roll cage is used to stiffen the shell. There is a good explanation in "The Unfair Advantage" by Mark Donohue.

Galvanizing a car will add a lot of weight.
Just a thought.

acid dipping removes every thing like rust and bondo .

You can just "do the dip" enough to remove the old body filler (bondo) and rust and such. Or you can leave it in longer to eat away the metal and make the panels lighter. In a unibody car like the 914, that is usually not a good idea because many of the body panels contribute to the structural strength of the car. In a car with an extensive cage (e.g., nearly a tube-frame car) that might be OK. Maybe.

I picked up a rebuildable 1.7 today...will be building a de-stroked large bore motor with a K26 turbo...looking for a side shift trans and any hipo goodies that I can get my hands on. If you need to get rid of any supension o motor goodies (non-stock) drop me a line. Used/good stuff is always better than new!!

94mm seems to be the largest bore which will still hold a seal at the cylinder head with a flame seal for a turbo. I know of one 2.6l that was turboed but it was low boost.
Maybe if you used the 102 nickies the alum to alum would hold under boost and actually last awhile.
Several people have turboed 1.7l engine sucessfully. The 90mm cylinders have a nice thick seating area so they can achieve decent levels of boost (15psi) and hp (around 170hp). Two of them use CSI FI for fuel management. Check the archives for info.

Funny, since it was acid dipped two months ago, and we only decided the end of last moth that we have too many project and that is when I posted it for sale, and this car has never been offered before for sale, and I have owned it since 1986.
