I know that folks are doing the early 944 to Beetle/Ghia front disk conversions by milling the 944 hubs to fit the Beetle front spindles. Has anyone ever tried to put the the 944 front hubs on a Type IV (914) spindle?

By changing the wheel bearings the rotors will fit, I will check the bolts on calipers today and get back. I mocked them up a while back. Steve

WOW!!!
Steve, as you know I want to upgrade my 914! I just happen to have some wimpy spare 85 944 single pot front brakes just collecint dust. What do I do to adapt these to my 914?!? Sweet! That is five stud done with vented brakes in the front if it works.
I guess in the back I need to figure out a brake upgrade and five stud conversion there. This is killer info.

I haven't gone out to the workshop yet, But if you can find a set of 70 to early 71 rear hubs, they have extra area to redrill for 5 bolt .Steve

Steve check the bolt spacing on Vanagon calipers. This change will comply with the rules easirer than changing to Porsche # calipers.BTW who sanctions the events, where are rules posted? Steve

Steve S.,
Can you sell me a set of those early hubs from a 70-71 that can be 5x130 drilled? Do I need 914-6 rotors to work with them? What about stub axles, is all that the same?
I already have all the 944 parts complete, so if I can use them I would like to. I can easily get Vanagon calipers, but I like the Porsche stuff.
The events here are SCCA sactioned autocrosses. I am into this for fun, to improve my driving, and to try to at least be near the top with the other fast guys. I don't really care what class the mods put me into though

(wait until I try to slip my 996 braked, 2599 T4 powered beetle into stock C SP haha)

Steve A,
Yes, after re-drilling your hubs, use 914/6 rotors. All 914/4 rear axle stubs and hubs are interchangeable. Regardless of year. It's just that the newer ones don't have raised bosses where the 5-lug pattern will be.

You wouldn't happen to remember the part nubmers for the bearings? I'm to that point now. Looking for bearings.

Steve S. Your welcome.
Steve C. I've seen Pelican's 5-lug conversion site. I assume that's where you were pointing. Unless they've added some new info, there wasn't any talk about bearings. Thanks for the tip though. I'll check it out again but this time I'll pay a little more attention. Just in case I missed something.
Thanks guys!

I have been swamped last week, I will take the hubs and struts over to E+C to locate bearings. Steve

It looks like the 914-6 front outer bearing will work on the 944 hubs to mate it to the 914 hub. Steve
