I would expect that it would easier to do this with either a tube chassis with wishbone suspension or just cutting off the gearbox forks and adding a space fram again with wishbone suspension. Sounds good, give us all a pic of it as you get on.

After purchasing a 914 motor/trans for a Beetle, I had the strange notion it might be easier to mount the Beetle body to a 914 pan instead. Is it just me or what.

If you take a look in the December 2000 issue of VolksWorld magazine you will see a guy that put a Super bug's body on a 914 pan thus keeping the 914 suspension, brakes etc. appart from the engine which he removed to install a unit from an 1973 Carrera RS. Thats 2.7 litres of power, 210 bhp. Now thats what i call a conversion. That bug has the engine mid mounted which means no rear seats and two empty compartments, yes! no engine in the front or the rear!. Its right behind the driver boxed and sound proofed.

The major headache with that conversion is the 914 has a longer wheelbase and you end up with iffy looking wings at the rear.
I've just finished a days work on the project we have decided to use S3 front suspension on the rear.So I've got a starting point for the rear engine and suspension carriers, the main carriers hade from 2" tube.
The floor pan has been stripped of the floor panels and the mounting rail is now 30mm box.
I will try to post some progress pics as I go.

Bobtail,

I just tried to access your homepage, and I have also tried in the past to no avail. All I ever get is a series of "FortuneCity" graphics...for everything. All the backgrounds, graphic links, and text links all are the same FortuneCity graphic, and no matter what link I use I just get more of them...I won't even go into the multiple "pop-up ads," but at least they aren't more FortuneCity graphics, it was very frustrating.

Has anyone ever mentioned having problems to you before? Maybe there is an error in some Java code? I'm stumped.

Anyone else have this problem?

Doug

BTW. I'm using PIII/550 with 224 RAM running MSIE 5.5.

Hi
A local Porsche tuner is thinking of using the rear suspension out of Boxster on a 914, its a modular setup and the parts are reasonable by Porsche standards.

Im thinking of mounting a 1.8T in the rear of my baja bug..who makes a kit to adapt it to an 002 bus tranny?

also..do these motors make good low end power?

thanx

I have just put the body back on and calculations seem to be confirmed and it fits where it should!
I need to measure up the total track F&R to make a guess at what width wings to get.
Any suppliers or contacts would be appreciated.
Thanks Paul

Well The calculations seem to work the rear track puts the wheels 60 mm further out so Remelle will be supplying those nice wings.
the front track with wheel fitted is about stock dimension so we'll get 40mm oversize for the front.
I just got a good digi cam so the site pics will be viewable I.E not join the dots Image

KEP does I believe.

Yep.... real good low end for a turbo, probably one of the smoothest boost transitions I've driven.

Hey Bobtail.... gotta know, how you gonna hook up the shifter? I've thought of doing simular on a street buggy (only with A2 stuff), but it's never gone any further than thinking...
