Taurus SHO V-6
Does anyone out there know about this engine. Output, weight, adaptability. I have a chance to buy an entire car with a crushed tush.
Many Thanks

the 3.0 v6 puts out 220hp and 200lbs, fried of mine has one and it is fast, the car pulls like mad in the upper rpms, motor is built like a tank, hard to kill. The 3.2 v6 with the auto puts out a litte more power. I would buy it right away if its the right price. what do have in mind with that kid of motor?

I haven't got any plans "Yet". I was sort of offered the entire car for $500.00, it's totaled up to the back of the drivers seat, it stopped in front of a truck that didn't stop.
I understand that the V-6 has the same transmission bolt pattern as the Pinto and there is a Pinto to VW adaptor.
With the computer and its' 1000+ sensors it may become an electricians nightmare. But I would have the entire car to pick pieces off of...
I was wondering about the weight and power into a bus box. 220 HP and a 7300 RPM limiter would make a quick ride of either my MANX SR2 or my VW THING.
For those that don't know, the SHO is a Ford/Yamaha built engine for the Taurus SHO and a few others. Early SHO's were V-6's, 96 and later were V-8's. All were DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. With the computer limiter removed they will turn up over 8,000 rpm

Just looking at the Kennedy Engineered Products brochure tells me:
"Ford SHO 3.0 Liter V6, Sequential port F. I., 24 valve, DOHC performance engine. Heavy but reliable 220 HP. WEIGHT 447lb"
adapter part # 4950
Quoted directly from KEP brochure.

There are lots of Ford Taurus SHO models. Which year is it?
Here are the years and the engine specs
1986-1998
OHV V6 FI 3.0
140?145 HP
1989?1998
DOHC V6 FI 3.0
200 HP
1993?1995
DOHC V6 FI 3.2
200?225 HP
1992?1995
OHV V6 FI 3.8
140 HP
I'm not sure about the Manx but isn't the "VW Thing" rear engined like a Beetle?
If so how do you plan to keep the front wheels on the ground with such a heavy engine hanging on the back?

The SHO I have been offered is a 220 HP, DOHC, currently has a 5 speed transaxle, FWD. Yes, both the THING and the MANX are rear engined, that was part of why I asked the question about weight. I have seen Beetles and Busses with V-6's. I have even seen a Beetle with a Chrysler Hemi V-8, but that was mounted in front with rear wheel drive so it really doesn't count.
I might be able to keep the THING on the ground, but I suspect keeping the MANX down would be much more difficult.
Maybe this engine belongs in something already front engined with rear wheel drive.
Everypone has said it is nearly indestructible...

Hey if you do get the taurus sho engine you have to get the ugly stubby spoiler from it and put it on your bug/manx.

My Baja will spin the rear wheels before it lifts the fronts. My V6 weighs 388lbs (I weighed it).
There is also a guy in the US with a 3.1 GM V6 in the back, and he spins the rears before lighting the front too.
People who think you will have trouble keeping the front down live in a fantasy world. They have been watching too many drag slick equiped 10 second drag cars with nothing to the front of them.

put it in the manx and go have some fun. Even if you do wheelie all you have to do is put weight in the front. It will ve you a reason to beef up your front end.

I used to own a 1990 w/5-speed. It was a beautiful car; electric everything, leather interior, and very fast for a 3500 lb. 5-passenger sedan. Check out the SHO Times for other details.

Very strong engine; just expensive to fix. One of the nicest conversions I've seen involving putting a SHO engine into a Cobra kit.

Weld the tierods straight and put the entire tranny, engine, suspension is the back. Instant disc brakes, less headaches, less money (you only have to fab up a mounting "cage" and points for the struts, etc. If you can't weld, it still might be cheaper to have someone do this that buying the adapter and having a vw tranny built to handle it.

A creative idea, but the SHO engine sits sideways, would sort of wipe out the entire back of the car.
