13B conversion?

Post by Wulfman »

how difficult is a conversion like this or similiar to do on a 69 bug? I've been reading about it and besides the transmission coupling and radiator what other obstacles are there?

13B conversion?

I am kinda looking into this as well, of course I'm a Ford guy so I guess that makes me weird... I found a place that makes engine adapters for the 13b/13bt swap.

KENNEDY
ENGINEERED PRODUCTS
38830 17th St. East, Palmdale, California 93550

To place an order you may
use the e-mail address,
[email protected]
postal address, or
Phone# (661) 272-1147
FAX # (661) 272-1575

Try them, they should know all about the swap... They have a web site too but I don't remember it.

13B conversion?

I am in the middle of doing a 12A conversion in my '72 Vert. The engine bolts to the tranny with the Kennedy adapter, uses a Kennedy flywheel,VW clutch.Have fabricated a mount for the front of the engine.Need to run cooling pipes to the front mounted radiator.Running a new 3/8 fuel line.A little wiring majik and with my Yaw carb and header should have 140HP maybe more.A 13B would be about the same just a little longer.

13B conversion?

I will be converting my 72 Ghia into a rotary power, I have a friend who builds rotaries in his sleep and he has seen a Ghia with a rotary set up. He told me that it wouldn't be a problem converting the Ghia. A 13b street ported engine between 220hp-250hp depending on porting will be installed. We also talked about a fiero cooling system but he told me he saw a rear cooling setup. So we will have to do some research. Cooling is very important especially oil cooling. Once thats all set, then the only thing in the way is the exhaust system, rotaries are very loud and not forgiving to conventional type mufflers, it can melt a glasspack muffler quite easily. Also matching the engines power band to the tranny would be great might need a completly rebuilt street strip setup. But once this engine is installed, be ready to have the time of your life, with a correctly installed setup the car will take on all new comers.

I would use a 12A... Four port 13B are hard to find... Plus the mounts are on the side... 12A mounts are right up front where needed... 12A's can also make hellacious power, they can be ported much more on the intake and exaust than a 6 port engine... Another plus you won't have to worry about the 6 port actuators...
12A intake are plentiful and cheap...

You'd never guess I'm actually a 13B fan, would you?

13b four-ports may not be hard to find, it depends on who you know, and what resources you have. Thats why I can go 13b. All 13bs until 1985, 1985 being the last year, had the front motor mounts, 1986 and later 13b six-ports have the side mounts. As for the 6-port actuators on 1986-1992 13b, racing beat offers an upper manifold that bolts on so you can use a 48 dellorto side draft and have the actuators still operational. If 12a's make hellacious power then imagine what a 13b can do.
