clutch noise?

Post by David Miskov »

The last couple of weeks I have noticed a knocking noise I thought was coming from the engine. Like a bad bearing or valve. This morning I noticed that the noise only occurs when I have the clutch pedal pushed in. If I release the clutch the knocking stops. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

The throw out bearing could be shot. only way to really tell is to pull it apart and look before it fails on you. when you are 20 miles away from home that kinda sucks. Power shifting is fun but stop signs/lights tend to get in the way.

I just replaced the bearing about 4 months ago.

Check your endplay. When you push your clutch in, you add thrust to the crank. Also check your engine bolts and make sure none have worked loose.

sounds like the middle mount on the clutch tube weld has broken, this is common and would make the thunking noise you hear. their is a certain amount of flex welded in and when it breaks the tube is free to bang about when the clutch is pressed.
