Well the rear crank is blowing oil on my 36 hp in my 58. I'm thinking of getting a sand seal to help stop it. I was also told to use some high temp liquid gasket around the crank there. I cant rebuild the engine at this time so I was thinking this would help to make it stop leaking? I may get the sand seal put some liquid gasket on it and put it in place after making sure it's all cleaned up and oil free around the crank? Needless to say this makes a nice mess of the engine bay so I need to fix it soon.

Sounds like you are building up pressure in the lower end. What you need to do is vent the lower end (valve covers ect.) or find why it's building up pressure, most likely bad rings.ck out -> http://www.1800vw.com/generic.html?pid=6
Pull the dip stick out and rev up the motor if the oil comes to the top of the tube, then you probly have rings that need replacing. Vic.
