I'm mocking up my 2332 build, and have noticed that there is some interference between the crank and my 86b cam lobes.
When I grind the crank, how much clearance do I want between the parts to be safe?
It's already been clearanced, but it does not clear this cam, so it needs a little more. I'm guessing a few thousandths in a couple spots will do it.
I suppose it is a good idea for me to have the crank rebalanced. I know that rods and pistons are quite critical, but I have no sense of what is the deciding factor for the crank.

Whoops...
Just kidding.
No it's not the shaft.. the cam has already been clearanced for stroker, its the actual lobe of the cam and the crank.

Mharney,what brand of crank are you using?The reason I ask,is because I'm about to start assembling a 2332 also with the same cam.I'm hoping I don't have the same problem.Paul

WOW! are you sure you have the cam timed right? Also you better chec rod cap to cam clearance again.

This crank is not available anymore. It's an older BPP crank with 912 rod journals.

I think it is correct. I positioned the gear in the same orientation that it was on a working 110 cam which also interfered btw.
What's the correct way to be sure the cam and gear are oriented correctly? I put it back on the way it came off the other or so I thought.

make sure the oil pump slot aims at the cam bolt, it can only go on one way.

If you mean that the slot lines up with the dot on the gear, yes.
It may be hard to see, but the dot is at the top. It is aligned with the crank properly too.

The shadow on that pic makes it look a lot more than it really is I guess. I would guess that about 0.004" interference, maybe. It's hard to get a good pic with the flash. I will try some foreground lighting to see if it can be shown better.

I have had this problem before....Yoyu are in for a round with a reduced base circle..
Those ramps look awful fast to be an 86B, but maybe the pic is messing with me.
My 200+HP 2332 uses the same lift as an 86C which is .010 more than an 86B and cleared with .018, she has seen 8K so far and stayed together...
If you think thats alot of clearance work and hassle, try building a 90 stroke TIV engine, or for that matter even an 8o stroke.
Mark, check your mail, I sent you some info on how to get the correct cam with the correct base circle from web the easy way..all you need is an old stock cam and a grinder.

it does fit with almost all other cranks, you are in need of a reduced base circle cam to get the clearance you need.

Here's a pic of my Berg 84mm crank. See the clearance cut in the outer radius of the cheek? This clears an 86C with about .o30" to spare (not sure of the numbers, been several years since I 1st put it together). It's not a reduced base circle cam, that would be my last choice of druther's. This is a Capri/Porsche journal for reference (54mm).
