How do the sending units work, do they all need to have a hole drilled in the head?
I have the Superflow heads...how should i go about getting a temp gauge on them?

The sender is like a washer that goes on the spark plug.

Just remove the washer from one of your plugs and use the thermistor instead. Everthing will work out fine.

I've been told 425 is the 'limit'.
My 040 welded heads never got over 350, even in 120 degree heat. Well, except that time I tossed the belt at 7K

I use the style that goes under the spark plug. I'm gonna add a question though: Does having one plug sitting a little higher cause a problem? Haven't noticed any.

Only problem is if you index your plugs. Most people don't do that.

Aircooled.Net has the gauge and sender, and just the sender seperatly.

You can, but you'll get more accurate, and quicker readings from under the #3 sparkplug.

#3 is usually the hottest.
I should rephrase what I said about the accuracy. Wether the sender is under the plug, or the head bolt, it will read the temp at that location, just under a plug, will give a hotter reading.

ok...one more for ya'...i'm measuring the rich/lean at the exhaust and the oil temp.
is there any reason to gauge the head temp while using these other two measurement? if so...what are the bennits?

Cylinder head temp gauges read MUCH quicker than an oil temp gauge. You can see a difference in the temp after hitting the freeway onramp. They're sweet.
