What doyou use to seal gaskets? I just installed my new melling HD oil pump and it is leaking oil. I pu t some sealer on it but I guess that didn't work.

What should I put on it?

The Melling pumps feature serious machining problems, most of them are not round and will not seal....

Try Loctite 518 "Gasket Eliminator" without ANY GASKET at all and it will seal. If this does not seal it, nothing else will..BTW, The pump will never come back out!!

Use Curil T .It comes from Germany and is made for VW engine cases

Other than Jakes suggestion there is really not much you can do. The Melling cast iron pump doesn't expand or contract at the same rate as the Mag. alloy case. This helps to open up avenues for oil to escape. This is the main reason not to use melling pumps.

So what pump do you guys use? The shadek?-I heard these have a problem with the gear spinning on the shaft since they stopped fitting the woody key-Only CB maxipumps have the keyed shaft-I use a melling in my 8500rpm motor-yes it leaks a bit but not much.Before that I used a berg 30mm and had problems with pressure-never did find the reason just swapped it out for the melling

The case does not expand that much..... Thats not the real problem..The cheap ass machining practices of a company that specializes in Chevy parts is. The pumps can be made to work nicely with some time, just don't full flow one, their gears and cavitys do not match with most pump covers that offer a fitting for full flow.

There is really only one pump to use, that's the Berg blueprinted Shadek.
