Ok... Slicks... What brand and where to get? Now that I have a spare set of alloys to mount them on, it's time for me to get my own set and stop borrowing from others.

I'm looking for a set of slicks (26x6x15) and want to see what others are using and where I can get them from (be specific).

I found the Jegs sells Phoenix (932-PH366) F9 compound 26x6.0-15W slicks.

I have run Good Year and I'm currently running Mickey Thompson 26x8x15. Both have run well. The one difference I have seen is the G.Y. have a thiner sidewall than the M.T.'s do. Thus I had to rotate the tires after every night of racing. the G.Y. still lasted me 2 years, but as time went on they lost air pressure faster. I had rubber left for "tread" but was worried I would have a blow out from the side wall. I have had the M.T.'s for about 6 months and they seem to be holding up better.

The best place to buy any brand is Summit/Jegs. Even if you don't see the tire you want listed, they carry all. Just know which you want when ordering. They will also have the best price around. I saved around $20-25 a tire and no sales tax! Later-Lester

[Glenn I have been drag racing for a lot of years using most brands of tires, Each brand will give you a different effect some with harder side walls for longevity some with soft side walls to give you lots of bite you have to decide what you are looking for and decide the brand that will work for you. if you are racing a good street car with medium power a harder side wall in a 26 x 6 by 15 will work well. If you have a lot of power 150hp to 200 hp a softer side wall with a better bite will work well 26x7or8 by 15 but you have to remember that more bite the bigger chance that you will find the next weakest link faster(you will break something.

My car is a 74 "street" car that I race sometimes. It has a 1904cc with 180hp and a Berg 5. I've borrowed a set of 26x6x15 M&H slicks and it runs high 12's.

It's just that I recently got a free set of "real" 914 Fuchs (4x130) wheels, so my only cost would be the tires.

Erco sells the M&h 6" slicks
but im sure summit or Jegs can get them as well.
as for the firestone/phoenix slicks, they have the 6" and the ones that specify 6w are actually 7 wide.

Mike... which are the most widely used on a steel street car. I hear that the M&H work better than the Phoenix.

I think by far, the Phoenix/firestone are the popular brand, but thats probably because they are redily availible and came in the right size in the beginning. I am hearing the same about the m&h working better. I know the guys at EMS prefer the M&h over a micky tompson for the 8" size. I went with stones because i wanted 7" as i didnt think m&h made a 7 but i could be wrong.

Thanks Mike. I found a few places to get Phoenix F9 compound 26x6.0-15W slicks which are actually 7" wide. But nobody seems to sel lthe M&H. I'll keep looking since i have all winter.

go through erco for the m&h's,or factory direct.the m&h slick is lighter than the phoenix,meaning less unsprung weight,which is always good.

Before you spend mony on slicks try A set of yokahama AVS tires I ran them on my turbo street bug at 11.80s at 115 mph. No they don't work as well as A slick but they do hook up pretty good.

McCormack Racing they carry all brands of racing tires and sizes they are very helpfull with compound and wall flex.

Thanks for the info. I'll definetly be waiting for the spirng until i make any purchases. I'm not sure if i'll be doing any more racing. I really hate when i break and if you don't break, you're not going fast enough.

Well.. i purchased a slightly used set of M&H 26x6x15 slicks this weekend. One has a slight leak, so i need to install tubes in both. I am unable to find a source locally.
Does anyone have a source for tubes that will fit. My understanding is that i don't need special "drag" tubes. Is that true? Email address or telephone number will do.

I never owned a set of slicks before so i'm looking for advice.

i had a set of firestones with parts store tubes in them and thay worked fine ,with slicks you have to watch for the tire sliping on the rim ,if you run tubes

I run the M&H 26x6x15 with drag tubes and the rim screwed. Car runs in the High elevns and no problem with it hooking up. It is a pan car that is all motor. Not a bottle bay.
