Does anyone know of anyone running SuperFlo II heads on the street as a semi-daily-driver? Or does anyone advise it? Im planning a 2332 type 1 with 9-9.5:1 comp. Any and all replies welcome...I just dont want to spend $700 on heads and have them crack on me from poor cooling, I simply want the engine to 'breathe'.

Good question!!! I run superflows on my 2443 and have yet to street drive it for fear of over heat!

One problem with superlo heads on the street is attaching sheetmetal, cylinder tins..They sell them for superflo heads, but they are not cheap..

I have used them on the street twice, in a very limited use vehicle..The fins are not made for cooling...

I personally would search for a head with a more conventional design....

So what heads would be comparable but also give you proper cooling?

I was thinking my engine would need at least 37mm x 42 or 44mm valves to keep up and not starve it. I wouldn't mind going with a set of 044's because they have the stock-size fins and would allow for near-proper cooling (but them SuperFlo's just look so damn mean!)I'n not really worried about paying $70 or so for the tins but after you pay for 48IDA manifolds and valve covers it starts to get kinda expensive for a streed car, eh?

how much do you plan to drive on the street? I used my existing sf2's on the street way back when but i was only driving some 5 miles to the beach, stop hang out with every one, make a cruise pass or two and drive home with no ill effects, but thats me and not every one else.
i would say to do it right, you need to fork out some real money to have some vw or 044 heads done up right. the typical big valves with new seats, relocate plug, weld up every thing, hog out the ports using the proper mind that knows what they are doing and match the manifold. more then likely in the $1500 and up neighborhood.

No better, SF1 has big ports, SF2 higher velocity small ports. Same casting on the external area.

There's no way that i COULD run SF1 heads...no velocity in the ports. I dont think i would drive it more then 10 to 15 miles, but im thinking on puting the engine in a new vehicle...an oval ('57) that i might buy, with NHRA cert. roll cage that im hopeing to BEARLY keep on the street!

Check the CLF...an Vdub'r from Europe mentioned using SF's on a daily-driver with a Porsche style fan and shroud. A possibility? BTW, dollar for dollar, would a set of modified 040's or 044's to your engine's specs be better than SF's outta the box?

I'm running competion eliminators with 46x38 valves. Ran them for a year having done 20,000 miles with type 1 fan and the compression was 8.5:1. Now I have just finished fitting porsche cooling and raised compression to 10.6:1 still good head temps and oil temps of no more than 90c. Only problem with heads after first set-up was worn guide due to rocker shaft bolt coming away at 9,000..everyone has different views but this has been my experience. good luck.

So i can tell you play with the idea to build my new road engine with angle flow cylinder heads .I thought about the samme cooking problens in meaning of the only 5 cooling fins so the producer of these heads showed me the reality ,he drives a 3063cc engine more than 30000mile in the heat of the dessert in usa ,drove 300 miles to race and go home ,this will a really good argument to use them, My plans going to reach a 200hp engine with 2276cc with these heads check this out.

My friend drove 1500 road trip to SCC this year with SF head engine, no problems. We drove about 1-2 hour and then stopped, and again 1-2 hour. Big hills up in Sweden/Norway. Speed around 80km/h-100km/h, air temps were 20-25C.
