For you folks who are using a Mallory Dist. What are you using for a Coil, or what CDI? Does anyone make a system for the Mallory that eliminates the Dist Cap and Rotor, like the Compufire system with an 009.

My Application is going to be:
T4 1700 with 40mm Dells, converted to upright with the DTM Kit, in a 66 Splitwindow.

I'm running a Mallory with a Universal Products CDI from John @aircooled.net and a stock Bosch coil (not the one for transitor ingnitions). The Malloy can be purchased with an optical pick-up which iliminates the points. If you wish to get rid of the cap and rotor you will have to go to some type of distributorless ignition.

do yourself a favor and don't use an 009. petronix or not. Its a bad deal on a bus. I just got my mallory in the mail. I'm just gonna use stock coil, and wires.

When you say "eliminates the cap and rotor" are you talking about the points? cause if you are, the mallory has an optical pickup rather than points. thats kinda like the compufire/ignitor i suppose.

I'm running the Mallory unit with vacuum advance in my bus right now. I was running it in my bug before then, and in a couple months, it will end up in my race car. When that happens, I dont know what i'll do for a distributor in my bus. I REALLY dont want to go back to the 009.

Since I'm running the 34pict on my engine, I might pop on an SVDA when that time comes.

As far as ignition systems, I've run just a plain blue coil, the CDI from AC.Net, and a Jacobs unit with this distributor. Works well with all of them.

Running a CDI actually gave me an extra 5mpg. No other changes than the CDI, and changing the plug gap from .028 to .045.
