61 vs. 64 rear end

Post by BugJunction »

Will there be any problems with putting a rear end out of a 64 bus into a 61 single cab?

Thanks,

You shouldn't have any trouble with a 61, but if it was a 60 you need to get an adapter front mount from bus boys, but a 64 into a 61 should work but you never know if it could be a left over 60 body. Good luck!

You have to use the late emergency brake stuff and then use cable clamps to take up the slack. I think everything else should bolt up.

'67 rear-end will be the best stock splitbus transaxle. Hopefully the tranny is in good shape and is stock. The gearing is a little higher than the other splittie's.

It'll fit fine. What I did on my '60 for the emergency cables was buy some of those cable shorteners that the buggy guys use. You gut the cable the right length then put them on the end.

May not be as good as a solid cable, but works fine for the job. Just check on 'em every now and then...but mine worked just fine and the emergency brake saved the owner of the bus right now when a wheel cylinder failed.

I put a `67 trans in my `62 singlecab and I don't recall what I did for e-brake cables, but I know it was done with some combination of stock parts (no cable clamps). I think I simply used all `67 stuff.
