they do not list cylinder part number in the Bentley!!

Where can we look for reference, so we know if we found a 1700 cc head or a 1800 ??

it is cast into the head, under where the rocker arms attach. tuna's website has all the part numbers.

yep, that's a funny number.

the X means rebuilt, put after any other number.

the numbers can be really hard to read, perhaps you are reading the number incorrectly? does this head have a VW symbol cast into it?

you can also identify the core in other ways: does it have any air pump holes? does it have a sensor hole for the FI temp sensor? what are the valve sizes? the quench areas are also different shapes from 1.7 to 1.8. the 1.7 head, if it is original, will have a smaller spigot for the cylinder - the 1.8 cylinders are bigger outside diameter.

so you should be able to identify it. if you can post pictures, this will help.

Well just because im looking at 1800 cc head on ebay. Here is the one i was looking...

its says 1800 cc bus 1974, but i was wondering if it was big or small valve because 1800cc head have both heads..

if they were from 74, they are carbed, big valve heads. ask the seller for some closeup pictures.

One exception to carbed rule 94 1,8 heads have 41mm intakes amd they were FI, no ERG and sensor instaled on one head. I have a pare and measured the intakes.

Have the seller do the same 2mm is not that hard to measure with cheep caliper or even good rule.
