Hey Guys,
I'm trying to convince my local DMV (in NC) to give me a title on a 66 bus I've brought home.
I've submitted the proper paper work with the chassis number in the VIN section. The sent it back to me requesting a complete VIN.
I don't know of any other numbers on this bus, do I just need to educate the DMV person on VW numbers?
Thanks

Hiya John,
It might be a good idea to show us the number you sent in to the DMV. That would allow us to figure out the situation.

`66 Type II VIN should be 9-digit starting with 216:
1966(from 08/65) 216 000 001
1966(from 12/65) 216 083 207

Hey Guys,
I sent them 226010496.
I'll copy some pages out of my tech books listing the numbers for the years, and another picture of the ID plate. There was already one attached to the form the first time.
Thanks

Did you match the number on the VIN plate to the numbers that are engraved into the rear engine compartment ?
I got screwed out of my title from a guy in Fayettville NC because of this.

Hiya John,
226010496 is from the 1966 production year.
The first digit indicates a Type2 (Bus), the second digit indicates body style (Kombi, Panel, etc.) and the third number indicates the year (6 for 1966 in this case). The next nine numbers are the sequential serial number. Had there been 10 numbers following the first three, that would have indicated a 1976 model.

Hiya John,
Hmmm......after looking at my last post I realize now that I shouldn't have had that last beer. It should have read this way...............
226010496 is from the 1966 production year.
The first digit indicates a Type2 (Bus), the second digit indicates body style (Kombi, Panel, etc.) and the third number indicates the year (6 for 1966 in this case). The next SIX numbers are the sequential serial number. Had there been SEVEN numbers following the first three, that would have indicated a 1976 model.
