oil tube??

My engine was smoking and stuff so I checked it out and it was this tube dripping oil onto stuff what is this tube for? its a 1972 transporter 1600cc anyone know if this should be plugged into anything or does it just drip oil?

What tube? Where is it?If it is next to the oil filler cap,there should be a hose that goes from there to the aircleaner. JT

Did it come from a foreign country? That's almost the only way it'd have a 1600cc (Type I) engine. All the `72 buses sold in the US had a 1679cc Type IV engine, which is a completely different animal. Can't help you unless you can identify the engine and the location of the "hose" better, other than to say that it's probably not a good thing that it's dripping oil from anywhere.

Where is the aircleaner??Get a manual for your year of bus.Read it.Figure out what you are doing.Then ask the questions so we can understand what you are saying. JT

I can't see exactly where it comes from but it comes from where I put the oil in. sorry about my non technical terms I just got my van so I am not a pro yet I couldn't find anything on this hose in the "how to keep your VW alive" manual thats why I posted about this
