Engine Mount

Post by SpyderMike »

I am putting a T1 in a 1970 bus. The engine does not have the threads in the case to accept the three bolts throught the corss member. I know there are adapters to attach to the oil pump cover. Who makes them?

Thanks,
Mike

Bugpack makes them, but I wouldn't suggest one. They are made to put a type 1 engine in a bus "temporarly". I have used one and my oil pump leaked all the time.

Almost all aftermarket VW parts stores such as Chirco and CB Performance sell this part. It is about a $10 item. You`ll need to use a longer oil pump stud to accomodate, so be sure to ask if this is included with the mount.Be sure to install new oil pump gaskets. If done right it wo`nt leak but is to be checked on from time to time. You`re putting a strain on parts never designed to take that strain.Good luck. Bob Ingman

Well I bought one and put it in. Real poor quality metal stamping. The holes didn't line up well. I first put their oil pump cover on and then mounted the bracket against it. When I tightened this down I could see that the bracket was not allowing the oil pump cover to sit flush. I tookit apart and put shims between the pump cover and the bracket and now the pump cover is tight.

The Bugpack kit was 14.99 and came with teh oil pump cover, longer stds for teh cover and the through bolt, washer and nut for the bottom hole.

It should work.

Like stealth67VW said, these should only be used as a temporary solution to a propulsion emergency (but I've seen `em last for years).
You may find that the rear mount bracket ("moustache bar") is now a little bit too far aft, which may make it more difficult to get to the muffler clamps and might require filing out the holes in the mount saddles of the body. Check the hardware (including the 4 nuts at the pump) for tightness every few months.
